Wooden cottage
Wooden cottage
Hi,
Presenting a real quickie - wooden cottage.
I was wondering if it is possible to use brown log-like bricks to build a traditional cottage constructed from horizontally layered logs.
Well, it seems quite possible
It is not a full-blown MOC, only a building technique exercise, so do not expect much.

Very nice. It looks really great with the horizontal logs (more natural feeling). I also like the color sceme. It adds some LEGO-ness to it and helps it from being too dark with just brown and black. It looks enough like a MOC for me.
I also really like how the walls stick out a bit over the foundation (which you remembered to include!) It remindes me of a log house my dad made, so I guess if that means you achieved what you were trying, then congradulations!
Seriously though, a great display of skill and creative vision. Thanks bunches for sharing this with us!

Me likey, but I don't like the door. Just sticks out too much . The gallery is modded now, and the deeplink No. 13 doesn't go anywhere (there are thirteen images, but one of them is labeled 00, and it is the same as 01).

Yes, don't like it either but had no better idea. I don't have a oldbrown 8x4 plate... (well, time to change that )smcginnis wrote:Me likey, but I don't like the door. Just sticks out too much .

That is excellent!
Although many people assume that log houses were built primarily with horizontal logs there are plenty of historical examples of vertical logs (usually of smaller diameter 6-8")
The main advantage of horizontal logs is the interlocking at the ends increasing strength and thicker walls increasing the R value for colder climates.
Good work

Nice! Building SNOT walls like this is not easy, it turned out good. I like the ladder built onto the roof too, nice touch.

I love how you did the floor and the fireplace. Castle SNOT at its finest.

That's a very usefull MOC - fits well in several LEGO themes, may be a house, a hideout or a hunting lodge and with the interlocking logs looks much more better.

I really like the update. The porch adds, as you said, a sense of scale to the model, and besides, it just looks really great. I wouldn't really think of this as castle, though, more like American pioneers/settlers, but it's still wonderful.

Nice, I really like the idea for the horizontil logs!
It looks like a real wooden cottage from around the 1600's.
