River Castle
River Castle
River Castle is the lastest evolution of my modular castle town.
Ever since a visit to Barnards Castle I've been wanting to do bridge in one of my town setups. However, as this means raising everything off the baseplates, I had to wait until the acquisition of a large number (several thousand) of grey 2x4 bricks to build the rocky sections with.
The castle's inner and outer baileys are divided by a river. The wharf is in the outer bailey, while the inner bailey has a gated inlet to enable the castle to be provisioned in time of need.
A bridge connects the two baileys. (I had originally intended to raise the outer bailey end of the bridge to the same height as the inner bailey end and slope the outer bailey from upstream to downstream, but time commitments prevented this, so the bridge is - somewhat un-prototypically - sloped)
My growing collection of market stalls are crammed into the outer bailey, with the ever popular juggler
The inner bailey is somewhat sparse, but as this area would typically only become crowed during periods of unrest, I'm not dis-satisified with only a few troops practising their skills in there.
One day I may rebuild the castle with a sloped outer bailey, but for now it's being sorted back into storage

Hey Will,
This just looks better and better every time I see it. I really like this version. Favorite details include the landscaping outside the inner bailey, the river gate, and that clever juggler idea. The whole thing is a feast though. The varying levels may have been due to lack of time, but I think it actually makes things more interesting than if both balieys had been on the same level.

Hey, Cool ! I like details in the town a lot, and olso the houses. I am not really amazed by the "English" shape of the castle and citywall. It would be a bit cooler when you make the walls less straight, and put a few towers extra to it. It`s more the amazing shape of the castle what makes my say woow. But I like it!

Cool another update! I like the black tower at the end of the wall. The detail of the houses is nice also as well as the entire town.

I really like this. The juggler's stilts are a great idea, and I love all the action in the village. The whole thing just looks like a fun place to be, but still defensible.

Say it "ESS-MICK-GIN-ISS", with a hard "G", as in "get".

This is awesome!
Very colorful and alive looking.
I like the flock of sheep, the ducks, the fisherman working on shore and all the vilage people scattered about.
I noticed the cool looking jester in thic pic:

I really like the water gate and the little cove that can fit a small boat.
I've never seen anything like that in a lego castle before.
The statue in the village part of the moc also looks great.
Excellent work, I hope to see more in the future!

Hey William!
This is such a great MOC! Your town is very well done, but more than that, it is very "alive". Your fig posing is very good and gives your town the perfect touch of realism. Way to go!

I really like this castle. I love the idea of the bailies seperated by the river. Your landscaping is great, it's not obvious and just blends right in! Your stalls are always fun to look at and the parts you changed really helped the overall appearance of this castle.
I'm very sad to see it come apart, but I understand. maybe you can make one that is entirely different though...

Aww, I know but nothing on the computer can ever truly replace the real thing. It had so much character...
But whatcha gonna do, eh? I'm sure your next one 'll be better.
