MOC preview - Archer Window Idea

Post by SavaTheAggie »

So I sat down today and built one of the towers for my next MOC, Castle Halcyon version 2.

So here's a shot of it:

But Anthony, what's up with those funky windows?

They're archer windows. But unfortunately, Archer windows weren't merely thin slits. If it were just that I would have made it all light grey (and I still might go back to doing that, I'm not thrilled with the funky colored windows either).

So why are they dark grey? Because real archer windows were angled from the inside, going from wide to very thin so the archer inside could have the maximum shot angle with the maximum defense (hard to kill anyone by shooting into a thin slit, especially if the archer isn't directly behind the opening).

So here's an internal shot:

See? Space and Star Wars have their place in Castle! :)

Like I said, I might change them to be just slits and all light grey, I'll have to wait and see if they grow on me. But for functionality sake they rock! At least IMO.

Maybe if I change the border around the slits again it would look better...

Have you seen what Dave O'Hare does for his archer windows? Just a sec, I'll try to find a shot of it...
