I had thought of that, but I don't actually need it, since the room in the middle of the two towers in already a barracks. Picture.

Does Lego have a tapestry piece, or do you mean cloth?

Also, there will be people on the stairs once it is finished. I still have to re-do it with the correct colors, once I get them.

Kelderic
Lego doesn't have tapestries as such but these flags do a pretty good job:

Another option would be to find a way to hang one of these cloth pieces:

Thanks for all the ideas guys.

I have add some height to it, and it now reaches the second level.

Again, I know the colors are messed up, it it temporary.

I have disovered a problem however. It it not big enough for a minifig to walk down.

Thanks for the link. I actually tried puting in a few different cloth pieces, but unfortunately, they won't fit any more than a minifig.

Howdy Kelderic!

Sorry for not replying while the post was fresh, but better late than never. I think your idea of using the tower for stairs is a great idea. Stairs make great use of the smaller space, and make your castle more realistic. Here is a pic of another stair building idea.

Image

If you have enough 2x3 plates, it allows the stairs to be scaled to little minifig legs. Also, remember to curve your stairs clockwise, so that the defenders can more easily swing their swords down on the their attackers as they back up the stairs. You may also include a taller step part way up to trip up the attackers.

That`s true Jim, in medival times it was a point of weakness if a man carried his sword with his left hand. The stairs were mostly clockwise curved so that the defenders could use there left hand to hold the stairs in the center pillar and there right hand to use the sword. A castle with the stairs not clockwise curved was not totaly tactical build.

Wise words, yet I am left handed, and therefore think like a left-handed swordsman. I keep wanting to build my stairs counter-clockwise, and must strive not to do so.

Jim, thanks for the pic. I had considered using flats, but I did not have enough of them. Seeing as how mine won't work though, I am probably going to have to buy some. Mind if I imitate your stairs? Not exactly, but similarly?

Okey, I have been working on the tower, and now the people fit through it.

Jim, thanks for sharing your method. I probably won't use it in this tower, but since I already put in a Bricklink order for a bunch of 2 x 3s, I will put it in somewhere. I actually need 3 or four more staircases to complete my castle, so I have plenty of options. :D

I had to change the design of the door, to allow more room to get into the stairs.

Picture

I also spruced up the front of the tower.

So, what do you think?

It's all looking very good Kelderic! I really like the outside and the stairs are working great. Keep working on it, I can't wait to see the final product.

Very nice work, inside and out. I am envious of that red door you have. I don't have one, but I think I may have to order one. :?

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Hey, nice :) . I'm running low on imagination as of late so that's all I'm going to say...

P.S.And to make this a bit more than a one-idea post, the stairs are nice and I was wondering if you could tell us what you used to make them? Just a thought.

I used 2 x 4 bricks and 2 x 3 brinks for the actual stairs, and for the rest of the tower, I used:
  • -2 x 4 45* Slopes
    -2 x 2 45* Slopes
    -1 x 2 x 5 Bricks
    -1 x 1 x 5 Bricks
    -Inverted 1 x 2 x 3 slopes
    -1 x 6 Bricks
    -1 x 8 Bricks
    -1 x 4 Bricks
    -Two of the 1 x 2 x 3 arch windows
    1 x 6 arches
That's most of it. Also, there are a few random plates on the underside of the stairs, for stability.

Castles have to have a water supply, and I believe there are a few real examples of towers sitting atop the well. Since you said the doors are above your baseplate level, you hopefully have room for a wench, bucket, and maybe even the water visible.
