Has anyone built..
A minifig scale Mordor building? Specifically, Cirith Ungol, Minas Morgul, or Barad-Dur. I've got some ideas for a Cirith Ungol, but I'd like to see others' for inspiration.

Hey,
I've never seen a fig-scale version of any of these. Of course, Minas Morgul and Barad Dur would be huge at fig scale. IIRC, the top of the Tower of Ecthelion was supposed to be 1000 feet above the plains. A fig stands about 4 bricks high. If we assume that a fig represents a 6-foot tall person, that would make a truly fig-scale Minas Tirith about 667 bricks high, or 6.4 meters high, or 21 feet high. Minas Morgul was originally built as the sister city to Minas Tirith (then named Minas Ithil and Minas Anor, respectively), so we could reasonably assume it to be similarly sized. I don't recall Tolkien ever giving actual dimensions for Barad Dur, but I think it was supposed to be bigger than Minas Tirith.
Cirith Ungol would therefore be a more realistic goal. I do intend to do this at some point, but unfortunately my whole Tolkien project has been sidelined for quite some time. Here are my LotR creations and here is a very out of date links page with other Tolkien MOCs.
Here are two micro-scale Barad Durs:

You might also wanna check Ersh777's MASSIVE MOC of The Tower of Orthanc.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=30325
I dunno if it's really minifig scale. I read somewhere that Orthanc was supposed to be over 1,000 ft high. So there's no way he could fit an Orthanc in his house as using the 1/40 minifig scale, it would have to be 25ft tall in Lego form.
But this Orthanc is huge none the less at around between 6ft to 7ft tall.

-I hate to sound a defeatist here but Minas Morgul was huge (not to mention Cirith Ungol and Shelob's Lair...). If you wanted to build that regular minfig scale, you would have to use about 3x3 grey baseplates. But then again, why build lego if all you're going to do is build tiny little things out of fear of running out of peices or something like that, you should at least give it a shot. Please try not to take any of this as an insult (it's not meant to be, honest), but I was wondering what your thoughts were on that matter.Hewkiril wrote:and ultimately Cirith Ungol, Shelob's Lair, and Minas Morgul.

I know, [LOTR nerd] and I'd do it under minifig scale anyway[still minifig scale, just not complete size, if you understand]. And I know i'd run out. I have maybe 750 pieces, and about 100 are in colors I wouldn't use, like blue. [Lime green and trans-green for the Morgul-stream]. I'll post WiP pics, sure, to show all how I'd go about building it.

If you need more parts for your creations, then all you have to do is to head over to http://www.bricklink.com/ and get more parts.

Go for it!
Ah!
I'd def love to see these attempted close to scale! And I'd have to agree with Nazgul, never let a lack of brick limit your creations!

I don't know how much this will help, but I started a portion of the guard tower near Sheelob's lair (the name escapes me at present).
Here are a few pics of it... (they are links of course)
I know, not much. I quickly lost my enhusiasm at the time and have traded it for a more realistic/historical castle.
So, hope that helps some, happy building!

Seriously, Bruce, I'd love to see you working on that again, and those not-quite-as-well-known builders always can bring something neat. I'm working on a more fantasy-themed building, but everyone, get building!
