You can use a make-up brush for dusting. They work great to get around studs. Just make sure it has never been used for it's evil, intended purpose  . For small amounts of dusting or a trouble spot you could also use canned air. That's what I do anyway.

EDIT- How the Megablocks did THAT happen? This post was made after I read DARKspawn's post that's below this one. Wassup wi' dat :?:

That highlander is so cool! The legs are wild.

Yeah dust is a major issue with my collection, I am really not sure how to remedy it.

In Australia we face the two greatest enemies of Lego - dust & sun ;)

This is quite a nice little MOC you have here. I like the way you did the torch and how you have the little storagew compartment in the roof, quite genious really.

Thanks for the advice NinthCircle, I have a paintbrush I'm now using at the moment - but the canned air idea sounds like a great idea

OK I am at about 50% through my MOC at the moment, right about the bricklink order stage ;) I have alot of work to do yet with the landscaping & finer detail but here is the folder so far http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=209302

All comments are welcome but I would especially like your opinion on two things

1) Roof colour? I'm torn between black & reddish brown. It probably should be reddish brown but a long almost featureless roof might be better in black so it doesnt attract as much attention. Also it doesnt appear as if Lego make a 6 x 16 plate in reddish brown, & smaller ones are very rare ...

2) Door colour? I am using "old brown" stockade doors at the moment & they really stick out. The problem is again that Lego don't make any suitable doors in reddish brown & I think black stockades may look a little odd

Thanks for your input

I think that a reddish brown roof would be best to go with the tower.

Overall this is looking good! I am not sure about the doors, but they look alright right now to me. Keep it coming man!

This is a very nice hall, looks quite viking-ish.

For the roof, I'd say go with yellow, or possibly tan. A thatched roof would be realistic (I think), and it would look nice too.

For the doors, LEGO does make some in red brown:

But they're rather large, and only came in one set.

Edit: If you want to use the same style of doors, instead of switching to the ones I posted, then make them black. The browns look really bad together (although that might be the lighting in the photo—I haven't put the little red-brown I have next to old brown yet).

Great job on this, I can't beleive I haven't posted yet. Thats a great use of a dragon head on the throne and everything else seems historically accurate(or plausible at least). I think that you should do a brown roof and I also have a solution for the doors- leave them as is. There were many types of trees that they could use for wood, and some was darker than others- this is why i have no problem with the fact the LEGO switched the brown(gray is another story). Hmm it looks like my smilies didn't work, is this a problem with my computer or the site? -Pac

Yeah I had thought about tan myself - i think that might work. Reddish brown is just going to be really expensive - i think there are like under 20 suitable plates of various sizes available in australia on bricklink ... ok maybe I'm exagerating

The realist in me says ur right. But using the two colours together on the same structure ... there is a little voice of a purist in my head telling me it's just not right ;) lol

Hey,

This is looking nice. I particularly like your throne design.

Well I could do more on the landscaping but I think I have pretty much finished it :)

One thing I have learned is that I need alot more green bricks  I guess I could also tile the entire roof, but that would take a couple of hundred more tiles ...

Thanks for everyone's input & comments along the way

This is a great Viking hall. I still would prefer yellow or tan for the roof, but the brown looks a lot better than I thought it would. The interior is great, I really like the chain over the barrels, and the stove is nice looking. The watchtower is great, and some other neat details are the boar's head and the beehive.

Nicely done! It had come together quite well. Some of my favorite details are the fire pit (with the grate), the boar's head, the ribcage, and the throne.

The style you started in the tower carried through the hall and they look great together. I like the "head" mounted above the door and the new knot design tile looks good thre too!

Thanks for sharing, and again, a super job.

Great Job, Darkspawn! I like all of the details you worked into this MOC. It is a great viking creation. Some of my favorite details are the boar's head, the rib-cage, and the knot tiles. Did you perhaps get some viking sets diring the TRU sale?

Thanks again guys :) I am pretty happy with this one. There was a Viking sale on recently, yes ;)

I think a tan roof probably would have been more realistic too - but I was worried that the overall effect wouldn't be the same.

I wanted to change the title of the thread from "WiP" to "Completed" but couldn't work out how :s

Well done. Great MOC! Love the details on the interior. The spit, throne and even the ribs. Good to see another Viking enthusiast........
