CCCL - October 9, 2006

Post by Bruce N H »

Hi all,

Unsurprisingly, our next CCCLinductee is Jojo's series of links:

Image

Steinwerk, Jojo's MyImages gallery and Jojo's Brickshelf gallery - Forum member Johannes Koehler has created an impressive series of MOCs, largely castle-themed, spread across 3 locations. Click around and be amazed. Also on his Steinwerk site, follow the Rittersets link for a set guide (German language).

Also, Fry_slayer has made a couple of graphics for us (Thanks, Fry!):

All CCCL inductees (including honorary inductees) are welcome to use these on their sites, as sig lines, avatars, or however they want.

Okay, it's time for the next round of sites. Vote among the following:

Jon Furman's Brickshelf gallery - Castle content: A large number of great castle-themed MOCs. Be sure to check out folders including his LotR (Tolkien) creations, the Guild Festival, and his Provincal Village.

Minifig Customization Network - Castle content: Purists beware, this cross-theme site is devoted to customizing figs and accessories. If you like to read our Castle Customs forum, you should definitely check out MCN.

Castle World - Castle content: This is a forum devoted to LEGO Castle storytelling.

Bricklink - Castle content: This is a general community site that allows individuals to sell LEGO elements. This resource gives us all the power to get the pieces we need to complete our projects.

Flickr -Castle content: This image sharing site isn't castle-specific or even LEGO-specific, but for many builders this is beginning to replace Brickshelf as the prime place to post their images.

Vote for your favorite.

Bruce

I had to vote for Jon Furman's gallery. I absolutely LOVE his MOCs! THey have a certain balance of simplisity and complexity that really makes them stand out. And, he is one of the only people I know who builds Battlestar Gallactica MOCs so well.

Jon's all the way, no offence to anyone else, but he makes BSG and LOTR MOCs very well, in addition ot regular castle, and many other great MOCs. Yup Jon Furman for me too!

I went with Jon's as well. The simple elegance has always made them stand out in a big way.

I had to vote for flickr—even though I don't have an account there (yet), it's a great site. And it helps spread LEGO awareness to other people. Congratulations to JoJo, and Fry, those are some great logos! Much better than the LUGNET ones (IMO).

Hey all,

Just a note on voting, you should probably base your pick on the "Castle-LEGO-ness" of a link.*,** If someone built really ultra cool space MOCs and had a couple of horrible castle MOCs, we wouldn't choose them. Not that I am saying that the great BSG MOCs were the reason that people voted for Jon's site, as his Castle MOCs are (IMO) among the best out there.

Bruce

*Or the "general-importance-for-all-themes-ness" of a site. E.g. Brickshelf, Lugnet, Brickset etc are not Castle-specific, but certainly hugely important across all themes.

**I use the term "Castle" fairly broadly here. For instance, Holger's awesome cathedral featured recently was actually built after the castle era (and then bombed during WWII and rebuilt recently from the original plans), but I'd count that as "Castley" (IMO, of course). Also I don't limit myself to central Europe (i.e. mid-east and far east castle-type creations count too).

I understand. I actually based my voting on his castle works. His other stuff was just a "kicker." Thanks, though for keeping us honest about this!
