The Dragon's Tooth Lighthouse

Post by JoshWedin »

Well, I am finally getting this posted. I built it for NWBrickCon but hadn't taken any good pics until this morning. Pics are links...

Hope you enjoy it and, please, let me know what you think!

Josh

PS. Since it is inevitable that someone will ask...there is no interior. The sections lift off for transportation, so you can access the interior. But it was built for a public display, so the interior is not furnished.

This looks great; though I'd lose the trans-clear 'bubbles' everywhere except around the dock and in the wake of that little tub-boat.

Great Work, Josh! I remember seeing this in some reveiw pics of NWBrickCon, but I never learned who built it. I like the way that you used the KP spiral staircase peices to add detail. Ingenious! Great MOC all 'round.

Nice. I like the big fire, reminds me of my summer job...

[/returns from day dreaming agian]

The overal shape is pleasing, and this is an area not built in much. The detail around the base is well done too, all the little animals and all add alot. The fact that the folks are bringing wood for that enormous flame is the best part IMO. It makes so much sense, but so many people would forget a detail like that.

It looks very stately in the harbor!

The overall shape is unquestionably great, but what makes this a fantastic Castle MOC is all the details you included, from the staircase pieces to the people doing things (my favorite is the dude in the tub).

Now, what're you planning for next year?

I agree, great little details everywhere. Have a question.... what are those triangular shaped pieces used for decoration on the building? I cannot think if a piece shaped like that.

Great job, it's really beutiful, great tree, excellent details, all those plants, the men working, the glittering water. I really like the design, neat use of those stairway peices! Nice flag to

Again, Great Job!! :D :P

Ziggy, who wishes he had the peices to make a decent sized Moc... :?

Holy moly! Got enough of those black convex slopes? Geez. Wish I had that many. More on topic, that's an awesome tower. It seems to fit together well, with the tower itself and the surrounding landscaping balanced. The only that don't like are the columns in this picture, although I don't think they make them in any other color. I really like the clear circle plates in the water. Overall, a very nice tower. Thanks for sharing it.

Josh neglected to mention his winning of the second place NWBC award. Congrats again!

I really like the ramp up from the dock...it looks appropriately unsafe. Can't wait to see what you bring next year!

By the way, happyfrosh is David Winkler.

Thanks! The bubbles actually flow around the front and down both sides because that is the direction the tide is flowing. They are meant to be flotsam, which usually builds up something like this.

In Christ,
Thank you! This MOC was sort of build around the staircase pieces. I had used them in a previous MOC (in the CCC) but I wanted to try a full size one.

Thanks! Yeah, people don't build lighthouse MOCs very often. There actually were quite a few medieval lighthouses, but they aren't well known. Mine is a bit oversized, but oh well. :)

Thank you, fellow Washingtonian. I love putting in lots of little details, a big MOC is kind of dead without them. And I'm not telling about next year! Its a secret, wild horses couldn't drag it from me! Actually, I haven't given it much thought yet. :)

Thanks! The triangular pieces is the spiral staircase piece. I used it before in this MOC but I wanted to do a full size MOC with it.

Thank you! The flag was made by Fry_Slayer. I love his flags, they are very nice. You don't need a lot of pieces to make a decent MOC. You can make decent stuff with just about any collection, just takes practice.
kelderic wrote:Holy moly! Got enough of those black convex slopes? Geez. Wish I had that many. The only that don't like are the columns in this picture, although I don't think they make them in any other color.
Thanks! I just barely have enough of those slopes and I did have to order some for this MOC. Sorry you don't like those columns, but I have always liked that color. I probably should have left them out, but I do like them. :)

Thank you! I did win second, behind some guy's awesome castle, but we won't talk about that. :) The ramp is one of my favorite elements of this too. I'm glad you mentioned it. It decided a lot of how the rest of the MOC would look, since it was the first thing built. And it does look kind of unsafe, huh? I wouldn't want haul wood up there!

And I can't wait to see what you bring next year, as you've set the bar pretty high!

this is excellent!!! a definite 5 out of 5. One question though. when u say it is a light house, i looked at it and said, hmm... looks like a tower. maybe if u put a light to illuminate the part with the fire in it or put in a clear piece, or a crome piece as a mirror.
Time to go nighty night mister west.

Thank you! I thought about putting a light brick in it for illumination, but I was out of time to rebuild the top.

I didn't say decent, I have a neat half-keep  sitting on my table :? Along the way I've made some neat stuff. I said decent sized MOC, or a Moc where bley and grey of both shades aren't all mixed so that it can be built. Or one with an actual roof instead of crenelations for lack of slopes. Oh if I could only use bricklink, or visit a bick-a-brick

I like the architecture of the tower, but it looks a little too thin.

Fantastic! I like the shape & especially the blazing inferno, very cool. The use of circular stair peices is genius. I also really like the guy in the tub, it's comical elements like this that really make a MOC. The fact that it isnt overly huge works well too - some of the larger MOCs can be difficult to take in just from photos online.
