CCC IV - Image requirements (or why my entry is not up yet)

Each submission is limited to three photographs, each no larger than 800 x 600 pixels. You may edit your images digitally, but only to clean up the images for presentation. LDraw images are acceptable but these entries must use readily available pieces, not large quantities of rare pieces, colors, or figures.

You may not have images with the smaller dimension larger than 600 pixels. Please resize your images accordingly.

Incorrect size: 643 x 621 pixels
Correct Size: 643 x 600 pixels

You may not have more than 3 images in your image folder. Subfolders with additional images can be used to show CC members your creations. Bitmaps are evil, do not use them ;)

How do I link to my brickshelf thumbnail?

Take your brickshelf image:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Benja ... tapult.jpg

Add the /thumb/ directory before the image name.
Then add _thumb.jpg to the end of the image name.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Benja ... _thumb.jpg

Or you can right click on the thumbnail image. This will let you view properties and cut and paste the image location into the form.

This thread may be updated periodically with further image information. If you have questions about your entry, send me a pm.

Could I make the folder with the CCC pics the subfolder, instead of the other way around?

Example:
* * * * * * *

The red asterisk represents the CCC folder, and the blue asterisks other images for the CC-ers. Thanks,

Yes, that would be perfectly acceptable. When you post a link with your submission, just link to that red subfolder. Basically, when the judges go to a folder to judge, we should only find 3 images.

Yeah, I know... Yet another question. Thanks for putting up with us, guys.

So you're saying we can't cut and paste stuff. Like say, a guy wanted to shoot something like this through the works. As you can see, I've added the black ball from another picture.

Also, I'm assuming that the rule doesn't apply to small windows depicting a mechanism of the MOC, such as a secret door or trap.

And, because everyone seems to like signing their posts on this thread-

I would suggest using this element in trans-clear to support objects in the air:

Moving parts, trap doors, etc are excluded from this rule. The admins will judge these entries on a case by case basis and let the entrant know if we have a problem with the submission.

This is a good question. So it is ok to inset a small image into the master pic featuring a closeup of a detail or a mechanism? This would be very helpful if it were true ...

I'm sorry to bother the admins with these rudimentary questions, but I am quite a hack with a digital camera/Brickshelf.

1. What is a thumbnail and how do I make one?
2. How do I get a picture on this site, like the ones that are just small pictures from the Brickshelf folder in the view entries section?
3. How do I decide the size of a picture when I take it/post it?

Could someone please explain to this poor person, who truly seems to be from the 1300's, the "For Dummies" method of doing things?

I am truly apologetic for these questions, and I sincerely thank anyone with the patience to deal with them.

I don't think I could put it better than Bruce:
Bruce N H wrote:When you're looking at the page on Brickshelf that is all the small thumbnails, just right-click or control-click on one of the thumbails and "copy image location". That URL should look like this:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/brick ... _thumb.jpg
rather than this:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/brick ... et6085.jpg
(note the inclusion of /thumb/ and _thumb.jpg in the name).

Spongey wrote:3. How do I decide the size of a picture when I take it/post it?
You don't. After the pictures are on your computer, use a photo editing program (try Irfanview if you don't already have one) and resize the pictures there before uploading them to Brickshelf.

Hope that helps!

You can also use paint, which comes on all computers. Just open the file, scroll down on the "Edit" toolbar and click "Select All". Then drag the border to resize it.

Yes if it shows a built in moving function. These images should be used sparingly. You may not make collages.

I see I've been blacklisted for too many images in the folder. I don't particularly mind and will delete the duplicated image and resubmit but I will point out that the wording is slightly ambiguous.

Strictly speaking I have three images in that folder with one of them repeated in order to provided a smaller version for use in the post. I see now that what you mean is three image files in the folder which is not quite the same thing.

I'm also curious how strictly 800x600 rule is meant to be followed? I can see at least one entry with three pics at 2304x1728

Thank you for deleting the duplicate image. Which entry has the large images? I checked all entries that I approved for image sizes. Another admin may have accidentally approved this entry.
