New Orthanc

Post by The dark tide »

Took me about 6 months to gather enough brick for this. Its not accurate to the movie and is nothing compared to Ricks version but its relatively accurate to the book. Sorry about how "shiney" some of the pics are, I am not a camera expert. I would have done more scenery about it but I dont have the green brick to do it seeing as I had spent all my money on black lego

Here it is.

Hey,

It looks really nice. Are you going to enter this in the CCC?

It might not be totally accurate to the movie, but it still looks like Orthanc, at least the Orthanc I had in my mind from readnig the book. I like the stairs, and your use of the really steep slopes looks great. Thanks for sharing it.

It looks really good! And it does look book-accurate. I love the is pic with Gandalf looking over the edge, made me laugh. :)

Mind if I make a suggestion? MOCs always look better against a neutral background. So, if you are going to take pics in that room, use the corner. Most of your pics have that hutch in the background and it distracts. Don't worry your picture-taking skills will increase with practice! :)

while not a big fan of LOTR (can't get past the two towers!), i watched the movies and i think this is a pretty good replica of what it should be :)

Thank you very much! ;)

Not that the Orthanc of the movies looks bad but I love it when people use their own imagination instead of just copying what the movies gives us.

I really like this, and I would love to see some landscaping around it in the future.

Thanks guys. My original plan was to wreck it and begin making one that is more "to scale" for a minifig but im not sure how large it would have to be in comparison. I dont believe I will be entering it into CCC. If I did I would have to retake the pics

I don't mind that this isn't a movie version, in fact more power to you. However, it does not appear to be book inspired either. Tolkien describes it as (I'm paraphrasing here) "four vast peirs of rock joined and rising to a point with four spires keen egded as knives," something like that. This lacks the "four piers of rock." It looks more like a modern skyscraper.

That said, I like this interpretation. It captures the scale of this extremely tall tower. I am considering having a go at Orthanc, and I think that I figured at minifig scale it would be 21 feet tall if at the right scale! I like the steps uo to the door and the interiors. Well done!

21 FEET! Well I dont think ill be making one that big  My max height would be something like 10 feet. I did go back and look at the book description and it appears that you are correct. Sorry I havent read the book in a while

ya the steps are great, and with regards to it being "from the movie" versus "the book", the tower u see is only a representation of a graffic teams version of the tower described in the book... as long as it follows the description in the novel... then all the power to you...

Well it irtainly high enough. But it really does not look much like orthance the way tolkien wanted it or in the movie.

Nice. I myself have been contemplating an Orthanc buildage. My only snag is-of course-lack of bricks.

Very nice, I like your interpretation a lot. It suits the figs a lot for some reason. Good work!

God Bless,

Nathan (who has pic problems too)
