Hilltop Tower
Hilltop Tower
Hi again, all
This will be my entry for the Fortification catagory - a solitary tower on a hill top. I started building this really early in the comp & thought I was going to be a little different again by building in yellow & including an original faction. How naive I was So when all the other yellow structures started popping up I put this on hold for a bit.
The tower was designed to either stand alone or be part of a larger castle. It is modular, so the top tower can be removed & the lower tower can fold out into a wall. The tower has a simple interior reminiscent of real life tower interiors which were often very simple & spartan. I went to some effort to limit the parts I used to those that were available around the mid 80s, although the plants, one visored helmet & the soldiers heads were released much later. I used the same techniques in landscaping as I did with my Oriental Bridge.
Please tell me what you think

Nicely done.
I very much like your use of classic colours. They work well when combined with modern building techniques. A fun piece to be sure.
Later.

Impressive. How did you do the angles on the tower? The design is very interesting.

This is great, I love the shape of the tower.
I'm usually not a fan of yellow castles but yours is definitely an exception.
The tower's design is really good and I like the use of arches and buttresses. I also like the window design as well.
Great job and good luck with the contest!

Thanks so much guys
The tower is actually an octagon & is done with hinge pieces with the old 45 degree wing plate to brace the shape. That in combination with the sloped pieces at the base make it look kind of round imo. I tried to emulate a Gothic style of archetecture with the arch within arch style of windows on the upper tower. The dark tide wrote:Impressive. How did you do the angles on the tower? I had to bin alot of the original interior shots as part of the interrior had come undone & I didn't notice until after I had taken the shots. They have been redone now & will be uploaded later but there is a ladder on the ground floor at the back of the tower which leads to a trapdoor on the first interior level. Then there is a brick-built ladder leading to a trapdoor in the top tower which has doors leading to the battlements. The only part that is inaccessable to figs is the very top of the tower - they will have to cart up a ladder for that oneR_The_Falcon wrote:I can't see a stair case or ladder.
Thanks I'm honouredJoshWedin wrote:Blogged, btw.
Can't beat simplicity! Yeah I'm kind of obsessed with it myself ... I just copied the basic BURB design, except there are no prefab wall pieces in any of my CCCIV entriesplucky wrote:I don't know why, but I really liked the hill. Simple, yet effective I guess!

I like the overall look of it! simply designed, yet striking as well!
I am a sucker for octogonal shaped buildings, so I like this a lot. Was just wondering how it would look in grey
The hill was a nice touch. Good luck

Very nice, I was just admiring that on EB. I love the heads with the classic yellow surroundings, the just do so much for it. The tower is also excellent. Great work!
