My version of the Citadel of Minas Tirith

It has been a lot harder to find time to build and post than I would have thought.

Anyway, I have my second big MOC to show you. It is my impression of the Citadel of Minas Tirith, capital city of Gondor.
I tried to stay close to the depiction in the Lord of the Rings movies, at least as far as my brick collection, time and skill allowed.
I used stickers I found in the folders of brickshelf user Mattcorp.

This MOC shows:
-The White Tree of Gondor, protected by the Citadel Guard
-The King's House, with Denethor's private quarters attached
-The tower of Ecthelion with a palantir inside. (Denethor's palantir is not mentioned in the movies, but it is in the book)

The roof of the King's House and the private quarters can come off, showing the interiors. Inside are Gandalf and Pippin, when they first meet Denethor.
There is no interior in the tower. The hexagonal consruction did not allow solidity AND an interior.

This is a preview

What do you think?

Well, just based from the preview pic, it looks fantastic, I can't wait to see what the inside of the main building looks like.

edit: now that I've seen the rest of it, the place looks fantastic, great job.

Wow, that's awesome. The only thing I don't like is the contrast between the black and white. I do like the contrast between the new dark gray and the white. At the same time, if you changed the black to new dark gray, It would get dull because it'd have the same colors over and over.

Anyways, you've done a really good job.

Wow, this is the best one I have seen yet. I am a real LOTR fan and I know some good stuff about Anor and Gondor. This even has the hall of Feasts. Well Done!

Amazing. I am seriously getting into LOTR, and this is truly inspiring. I can't wait to see the whole folder.

I like it! Do you plan on making the rest or Minas Tirith? It is a great start.

Well done man, very close to the movie version.

I wouldn't hold my breath, looking for him to complete the entire structure.. what a task that woud be.

Spectacular. This is quite close to the movie version (which, neatly enough, is close to how I had always imagined it). I like how, even thoguh it is smaller none of the effect is lost (not to say it's small at all). While not quite full size it still conveys the idea VERY well!

It would be awsome to see all of Minus Tirith like this, but I see how that might be a problem... :?

Thanks for sharing, this is great!

Amazing!!! I love it, probably one of the best! Is there a way to put this on top of the rest of the city, that would be cool :D I oove the architecture, really advanced. Great interiors and details.

Thats a great looking Citadel you have.

Now, about the lower 6 levels.... ;-)

Thanks for all your nice reactions.

As some of you have suggested, the master plan is indeed to build a minifig-scale version of Minas Tirith. I have investigated what this would mean: the outer diameter would be about 10 meters and the height of the central rock would be 6 to 7 meters. It would contain a thousand houses. A daunting task indeed...

If I were to build Minas Tirith at the same scale of this seventh level, it would be about 1.5 to 2 meters diameter. Still far too big to manage.

I have a plan to build a version to fit on four 48x48 baseplates. The rock should be about 60 bricks high. That is the biggest I see feasible for the moment. This size only allows room for 4 levels. Still, I imagine that the look and feel of Minas Tirith could be nicely recreated.
I will need more bricks however. After the current MOC, i have exactly 12 white bricks left.... :(

For the next few MOC's, I plan to build some city parts separately. My ideas include:
-main gate, with the battering ram Grond
-a trebuchet
-the beacon
-a section of the wall, with an orc-filled siege tower

Any more ideas?

best regards,
Astuanax

That white looks really good. I'm generally not a fan of white buildings, but this one really works. I'd love to see it elevated upon the rock with some houses around the base. Perhaps you can have a flaming Denethor too?

Good work. I have to confess to really disliking the LOTR movie version.... It never gave the same impression of faded grandeur that I get fro the book. But if imitating it was your goal, you did it well.

Thanks for sharing and God Bless,

Nathan

Excellent! I like the architecture and how the black and white are mixed.
