Thatchy
Virtual brick builder extrodinare Tim Gould has posted this really great thatched roof design using some unlikely peices.

Pretty cool I must say.

That is beyond cool. I think I saw the earlier version but turning the teeth upside down just adds the extra texture that makes it really work. of course getting that many teeth...do they even make them in tan?

I have quite a few, but only enough for about a chicken coop all the same. I would love to try this in real life sometime. Thaks for posting this Tony!

I wonder how it would look with the pieces turned right side up?

I wondered the same thing, but noticed below in the comments on the flikr page there is a link to that design. I like it upside-down better personally, otherwise they look more like shingles, or tile-shingles (which is neat too, but not as "thatchy" as Tony called it.)Athos wrote:I wonder how it would look with the pieces turned right side up?

This is a very good approach to thatch, it looks pretty lifelike. Who'd have thought that piece would work so well in this application?
I've been working on my own thatch idea, but I unfortunately don't have nearly enough of the right pieces to reveal it yet.

Well I was considering posting this here but since Anthony beat me to it I'm saved the hassle
I was having a glance around today and I noticed that S@H PaB has the tan teeth for 4p each which is cheaper than the cheapest BL stores with lots of them.
One bit I'm not satisfied with is the top of it but I feel certain something neat can be done there by a clever castler.

An amazing way to use teeth. I wish I could make this kind of roof... maybe one day I will.

I am so using this. Are there tan teeth though?

Indeed! Well, that PAB S@H might be a good thing after all...gambort wrote:I was having a glance around today and I noticed that S@H PaB has the tan teeth for 4p each which is cheaper than the cheapest BL stores with lots of them.
I was already thinking up some ideas. If I think up one I like I may just have to order a bunch of these parts...gambort wrote:One bit I'm not satisfied with is the top of it but I feel certain something neat can be done there by a clever castler.

Build your own roof
So... apparently I was bored enough to bring LDD out of the closet, scrape the dust off and make something.

Hopefully those links should take you to where you can buy a 6 long section of roof with both sides but no connecting bits (the ones in the picture are 16 long).

That looks great! Wow. It would also be great to add a few "not quite so perfect" places in that roof. My only complaint is that it would be difficult to use in a simple building.
Now I wish there were yellow teeth avialiable.
