Bat Lord Ballista

Post by DARKspawn »

Hi all,

Not sure if I want to submit this yet, at least not without getting some feedback first. Creating a firing mechanism for a Ballista wasn't easy, especially after deciding that I was going to try to build it as accurately & to scale as possible (before adding the giant skull, lol)

I wanted to do it in brown - but the elements I need just don't seem to be available. Namely 1x1 mod bricks with the technic hole. I am also not 100% on the giant skull, I like it's construction but it just makes me laugh. Although it does help define the morality of the faction ;)

I have filmed it shooting, but havn't uploaded it yet, it's got about a 6' - 7' range :D

Comments appreciated :)

It looks great! Better than I could do anyways. The skull is my favorite part. Is it supposed to be a dragon skull?

Hmm, I actually love it! The skull works for me and the fact ath it shoots out of the mouth is really cool. The mechanism is simple, but very effective and a bit off topic I actually like the two "bat" guys. (odly enough, since I always disliked that faction...)

Hmm, The wheels are actually the only thing that bug me but I culdn't tell you how to fix them, I can't think of anything better off-hand.

It looks great. I'm not too good at mechanisms like this, so I respect this ability.

I also like this quite a bit. I think the skull is really cool. The idea is good too. I could see something like this as a set.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I have uploaded a 5.5MB MOV file to Brickshelf of it firing, it can be seen HERE & goes for about 30 secs.

I will have to tool around & compress the file but I am just figuring out how to do this (yes, even techs sometimes need to RTM ;))

You simply must enter this in the contest. An absolutely wonderful design, with an ingenious firing mechanism. The fact that the hook pivots around the axle causing the string to release is sheer genious. Honestly, with MOCs like this, you could end up taking this category.

Ranks as one of my all-time favorite seige weapons. Small, attractive and functional. Awesome in every sense of teh word.

Masterfully done! This is one of the best ballista's I have EVER seen. You should try and come up with a way for it too shoot farther. I absolutely love this thing. EXCELLENT JOB!
