Ballista Proof of Concept

Post by kelderic »

Greetings.

I have been working on a ballista for the Castle Contest. I have been trying to get a realistic torsion mechanism working, and while I do not yet have a finished product, I do have the mechanism working. Here are two pictures of the WIP. I am placing an order on Briskshelf to get some pieces to make it look really cool, but it is completely functional now.

Although a bit big, this is pretty good looking. I hope the colors are a WIP, though. ;)

I think you mean torsion... unless you're referring to the pain a fig feels when a bolt from this hits him.

Kelderic you da' man. That thing looks brutal, like it's got some fire-power. I was a bit confused as well by what you said here, but all in all, it looks very functional. WTG.

Wow, I will be very impressed to see this both work like the real thing should AND look great. Right now as it is I'm impressed you actually have it working! Great work here.

How far is its range? I like the design of this and it appears to be able to launch quite well.

Thanks for all the responses. The range is about 4 feet, although I am going to try and improve that later by thickening the rope. I have ordered a bunch of lego rope from Bricklink, so when it gets here, I will be able to thicken it.

That's very impressive. It looks like a giant crossbow. My siege weapon ideas are limited to the little launcher thing from the HP Quidditch set. By the way, is the light saber supposed to be there?

Yeah, it's tied to the string that goes through the technic plates.

You got it. I am using it temporarily until I can get black versions of the pieces they used as wands in the Harry Potter line. Although, it is actually a trans-green spear, not a light saber.

I really like the use of the dino tail midsections. The curvature of that piece is perfect for your MOC.

I agree. The dino tail usage is good, as well as some of the other technique.
Nice!

Thank you, I also thought the dino tail looked good. I got the idea for it from Age of Empires. Although, I am probable not going to use them in the final design, because I have basically started over. Still, they may find they're way in.
