Viking Village (WIP -Updated 3-15-07)

Post by Athos »

Here is the beginnings of a Viking village I've been working on, that I thought I'd share with you.

I still need a few more houses, to make the roofs more appealing and landscape.

Beautiful work so far, Steve. Can't wait to see the buildings with more landscaping around them and definitely minifigs lol. Any special plans?

These are a great start, some landscaping with snow, a communal firepit and some Vikings would really round this out. :D

I like the rugged looks of the roofing, perhaps some white for some snow patches, but I don't think appealing is the look you should be going for. Rugged and functional, now that's a viking dwelling!

After a long absence, I have returned. I can't wait to start building again.

Oooh. I like that idea. I'll definately have to include that. Any other suggestions as to what to put in the village?

Perhaps appealing wasn't the best word. I want to make the roofs look similar to the one with all the grass growing on it.

Me too. I'm kind of waiting to do that, because once I landscape it will take up a lot of space.
Any special plans?
Its going to be the setting of my next JT story.

Cool - I like the turf roof! Needs a few more stems though I think. Are you going to build a hall?

Well, since everyone was commenting on their lack of enthusiasm for the tan base plates, I thought I'd landscape it up a bit and see if it changed any minds. So here you go:

Ah, much better Steve! The landscaping definately makes me more excited about this. You should make this a modular-esque village, in the way you've completed this section. Very nice.

I must say I really like the dark tan for the roofs. I have some of the plate, but I need to get some more for hut roofs I think...

Nice job, I really like the way the village seems to be taking form. I never bought any of the viking sets (not sure if that is a good or bad idea yet), but the village seems to be a creative addition to any viking world...

I really like the combination of the tan baseplates and the green plates. It gives the ground a more natural feel.

This is a great start. The colour combinations look authentically Viking. I can't wait to see the landscaping.

The village has a very Norse feel to it. You've kept the houses simplistic, yet very recognizable as to what culture they're supposed to be from.

Here are some new pictures. I ran out of green plates and had to rework the landscaping a bit. I also added two of the buildings to the scene. Also if you look closely you'll see Odin, a Valkyrie and a Dwarf...

Hey, this is looking great steve! I like the positioning of the homes and the fig posing. My favorite detail is the viking lamenting over his spilt beer, I gotta kick outta that.

I had to figure out why he would be yelling, since he wasn't in a battle. That seemed the best way to me.
