Story Standard Project

Postby ottoatm » Thu May 31, 2007 1:12 pm

Over at CW I've been working (slowly, I must confess) on a Story Standard for LEGO stories. Not a list of rules per say, but a general set of modules/objects that most good stories have and or address.

It's something of a guide for all stories in general, and after it is finished, I plan to do a more specific standard for LEGO Comics, Novels, Epics, Text Novels, etc.

If this were to happen, perhaps working groups could be formed so people could work on specific types of stories, sharing what they think makes a good "comic" (for example) and eventually coming up with a standard.

I wanted to post it here to see what people thought (if anything) on it.

The Castle World Story Standard Project

I'm finishing notes for what each "box" contains and what it stands for. For example, the "Characters" box actually has several sections:

Protagonist
Antagonist
Other Characters

And the Plot "button", which might be the most important (which is why I put it in the middle), is made up of the following aspects...

Subplot
Climax
Conflict
Ending
Events
Openings
Structure
Scene

Anyway, I know this may seem boring/odd, but I thought I'd share my latest plot/scheme with you all... if nothing else, for your amusement about how I spend/waste my time.

I am a bit confused on what this is supposed to be. Is it a list of stories, stating the plot, protagonist ect... or a contest. However, it sounds good.

Hmm... really? Maybe I'm going too far into the analyzing of this all.

Basically, what I am saying is that every story has a structure, or skeleton.

This chart/graph represents the main parts of every story, although every story doesn't necessarily have them.

For example, every story has a plot, characters, etc. That is each box. In each box are more details that every story has, like a protagonist or antagonist.

It's not a list of stories, per say, but a "map" of what one story should/could have. A successful author addresses these elements when they write a story. Maybe they don't have all the elements, but they consider them at least.

Heh heh heh... I guess I should spend less time writing about stories and just go back to writing my story. Still, I thought someone might find it interesting and just decided to post it. :)

Heh heh heh... not a problem. I'll post here as it updated periodically, if for no other reason than to show how things are all going and to make the little "Stories" shield light up from time to time. :)
