The history of Lego Castle documented

Post by The Hordesman »

After studying lego catalogs and their small story column for every castle theme(not to mention set designs), Ive finally been able to write down the whole history of the lego world:

CLASSIC AGE
The first years of the lands known history.
At the end of this era, which was a quite peaceful time
where the ownership of land was given by the winners in
the tournament rather than in battle, the grand castle of the
Blue was stormed by men from the Lord of the Crown and his General,
Lionheart. Lionhearts strategy helped them win tremendously against
the Blue, but unfortunatly he was killed in the battle.

GOLDEN AGE
Now owning the entire land, the lord of the crown made his
emblem the mix between his and his generals, to honor his
dead friend, the crowned lion. And soon he became king.
Unfortunatly not all agreed with the lone ruler, and created
an army of resistance, the Black Falcons. However, under this time,
new mounts had been found, leaving the large, though wild large
horses of the land as a food source. The peasants was also quite
fond of this time, and trade was still open between the lands.
Weaponry was also evolving, with new heavy helms and the invention
of the platemail, giving this era its name. The pitchfork was also invented at this time (!)

TYRANT AGE
With time, the both kingdoms became to taxate everything,
and the merchants could not travel freely and the peasants was
really the lowest in society. As resistance, a lord working for
the King took peasants from both kingdoms to form the forestmen.
They worked like bandits, but only attacked royal forces rather
than peasants and travelers. Though some where just thieves and rouges, they
still made society respect the poor better, especially those living
the large woods. Now a high ranked lord of the Black Falcons crowned himself,
calling himself the Black Monarch. Some lords took his side, while others
did not, and the Black Falcons was shattered in two. Those
loyal to the Black Monarch took his emblem, the Cockatrice,
while the black falcons remained the same. The Black Monarch's
men was known as raiders at this time, as the took enemy slaves
to work for them rather than working themselves, and his
warriors owned what they found.

WOLF AGE
The Forestmen was now near extinction, since these peasants was
perfect targets for the raiding Black Monarch, and hired a large army
of mercenaries of what little gold they had. They promised the mercenaries,
known as the Wolf Pack, to take whatever gold and other precious items they
could find. They accepted this, but the forestmen noticed now that the
only thing the Wolf Pack did was to steal and fill their own treasury.
They was so unreliable, infact, the Lion King hired them to destroy
the forestmen, and so they did. Soon the Black Monarch defeated the
Lion King, and the Black Falcons became nothing else but a small
band, trying to survive in the wilderness.

DRAGON AGE
Soon, the Black Monarch died, over 200 years old. Now a new order took
over after him, known as the Black Knights. However, they noticed that
someone else also wanted to inherit the kingdom. Majisto, the brother of
the Black Monarch whom had given him his long life, also wanted the kingdom,
and named his army the Dragon Masters.
A war now broke out, and Majisto won many battles with his magic, strategies
and Dragons, which he trained in the high mountains. The Wolfpack at this
time continued their burglars, but their headquarters was soon found by
Majisto, who had sent his dead brothers ghost to find them and report.
The hidehout was smashed, and the wolves fled. The Wolfpack was never to be seen again,
as they fled to the north. The Black Knights had no chance, as their castle was
stormed by tens of dragons and thousands of majisto's troops. Majisto
was actually not only a grand strategist and wizard, but a grand
designer of intimidating weaponry. Among his designs are the huge
halberds, mainly used to scare off theives and the dragon helm,
normally worn by his knights.

ROYAL AGE
But Majisto had yet not looked in the southeast of the kingdom, where a small
kingdom of Lion remnants had created a seemingly unsiegeable castle.
Majisto, filled with greed for land and underestimation for his enemy,
stormed the kingdom with a small army of ten thousands. The king had however, made
a trap, and as the proud army of Majisto stormed the castle, the kings men rushed out
from the castle dungeon, and trapped Majisto. More men rushed out from nearby caves
and captured Majisto. The Dragon Masters kept on fighting the king with full force,
and Leo forced Majisto, with the threat of torture, that he would raise the dead
to join Leos ranks. Majisto didnt like the idea, since he saw necromancy as an
unspeakable evil. But without a choice, Majisto gave Leo an undead horde. But
without knowing, the army was stupid and weak. Majisto was sentenced to death
later when Leo found out that the army was not strong enough, and the Dragon masters
was defeated. But soon a new threat rose for him, as a resistance group known
as the Dark forestmen, as their headquarters lied in the dark forbidding
dark forest. The king used all his power to destroy this army, but could not
as they where peasants who had enough with his taxes, bandits and travelers
from other lands that had come to defeat a rumored tyrant.

TERROR AGE
Leo knew that this new threat outnumbered him and knew the element of
suprise. He hired a sorceror from another land and his wife. The sorceror
only wanted to be called the Bat Lord while his wife was known as Willa the Witch.
He gave the lord a piece of his land, and the demanding witch a peice of land too.
The Forestmen was no longer a threat as they both used undead hordes and elite troops
the defeat the forestmen, but they also killed the king, and turned whomever
who served him into the undead or a mindless goon. Luckily, the Witch and the Bat Lord
was not very fond of eachother and began attacking eachother's territory. The Bat Lord
formed an army of the Large bat and the Witch the army of the Lesser Bat. A war of
confused armies was abroad, until both spellcasters where dead. A rumor says that
many of the undead used in the war was controlled by Majisto's ghost, as they where crazed
and attacked both armies sometimes. His ghost can be the reason of the king's
quick loss in the war.

REBORN AGE
After the defeat of the spellcasters, many many years passed by. The once enslaved men
returned back to normal life. A man, also named Leo was seen as a brilliant leader and
returned the kingdom back to its former glory. He was a wise king and true ruler, and peasants and knights alike
joined him for a true cause. Unfortunatly, some people who where the heirs of those
who served the spellcasters, now with cursed grey eyes, created their own army. Enchanced
by dark magic, these men was much stronger than normal people. Soon, they laid
siege to the King's land and war was again abroad. Eventually, the king's daughter
and his noblest knight, Princess Storm and Sir Richard, defeated Cedric the Bull, the
leader of the cursed. Richard became heir of the throne, and Storm the first
queen with just the same amount of power as the king in the lands history.

Morcia is another land- since lego dont talk anything about these old factions in the history behind morcia. I know the Lionheart faction is a part of the town system but its wayyy too awesome to not include. And there must be a reason why those theatre guys have that lion emblem- a historical figure, right?

That's awesome. I've never heard that history before! It sure explains a lot. Thanks for sharing!

It's a fascinating history you've put together there, Master Hordesman, but it is really just speculation. I've seen quite a few similar tales out there: "histories" that trace the development of LEGO Castle from the Yellow Castle era down through to the Knight's Kingdom. I enjoy reading such things, and there is generally a coherent logic to them, but it should be noted that there is no OFFICIAL story put forth by LEGO. The first theme that had any real story to it was the Knight's Kingdom. Even the Fright Knights only had a couple of names tacked on.

So, in sum, that's an interesting history you've put together, and I admit to being fascinated by such things, but it is no more official than most out there.

For what it's worth, I imagine each of us has our own history, of the official LEGO factions. And I imagine that they are each unique. Since LEGO has never put forward anything official, then that is the way it must be.

Personally though, I think it's better that way.

Ive seen alot of people having large " :?: " above their heads and really wants a full background behind the factions. Ive never seen much of another documentation of the storyline, and this was actually done for some month ago when I was deeply bored :P

This will also be used as the base of my story, which may be released in autnumn (badly needs new KK2 sets and vikings).

Of course, the story is up to the user. This is just a inspirational source to building etc.

Yes, I suppose there are a lot of users out there who are new to the online community, and don't know about all the older factions, and want to know if they have official storylines in the manner of KK1 and KK2.

I was one of those myself in the years prior to discovering Classic-Castle and Lugnet. I had never even heard about the Yellow Castle era until discovering the internet, and my knowledge of pre-1992 sets was sketchy, at best.

So I can understand why you would post this (and I totally can see how it would work with your games and MOCs). I just thought it might be best to post something of a disclaimer post for those same users who don't really know the older eras, and would assume that this was official stuff you were posting.

No point having them asking where you get your information, when it came out of your head. Always best to make some things perfectly clear when posting.

Hence, my post.

Hey Hordesman - cool post - and like Formendacil said - an enjoyable read - I really enjoy reading the different perspectives about the history of the lego factions. The first one I ever came across was posted Here http://itsa.ucsf.edu/~erikred/brick/rtl/castle.html - and it inspired me to come up with my own... which in turn has led to my story/book... which will also be out... >soon<. (how many times have you heard that? )

Anyway, cool post -

Really? I asume that was one of the reasons why Anthony Sava wrote the Kingdom of Ikros.
I too had a "book" It looks like a bunch of aspiring authors got their inspiration from LEGO...

Hehe, I actually based a book Im working on on my lego creations from the beginning, but things has changed so much it isnt really recognisable :P

"Hmm... Middleages? Nah, I want something unique, lets see... Yeah! 100dc Arabia! Great! Now, lets see... Factions? Lions and dragons? Nah... Cobras and Octopuses! Yeah! Elves and Dwarves? Nah, let the dwarves be but and change the elves into...

... Now then... Oh! Perhaps I should remove all magic and stuff and change it to scientific facts! Yes! And add figures that is waayy from the normal human behavior! Settled!

...And some angel-like creatures would be neat..."

I'm like you, Hordesman. My trilogy started as Lego-inspired, but then ideas kept flooding in that would have been impossible (okay, really difficult) to build. I should give it a shot some time.

Really? I dunno... he seems to mix and match logos pretty freely in his story, I assumed he was doing his own thing... not a Lego history, but it's all good either way. :P

Yea... in regards to the other comments, I'm finding my writing to be the easier part of this whole venture... the building takes TIME... and then how to use the lighting/photoshop so it looks good... and you have to find just the right background photos... argh!!!
