The Lay of the Lion of Brystei (Contest Entry)

Postby Maedhros » Sat Sep 16, 2006 5:01 am

Here is my entry for the Story Contest. Might change something here and there but it´s nearly done I think, just wanted to see if anyone had some suggestions before I submit it.

And I apologize to any and all Tolkien fans who might be upset by the use of the word Lay in the title ;)

And I owe Sir Dillon the superficial smile....

... and many thanks to NickGreat from MCN for the Dragon banner!

That´s it I guess... And here´s the link...

Great story, Maedhros. It's very well written, and you used what look like Welsh (one of my favorite languages, which I sadly don't speak) names in it!

So does he win, and kill the bad guy king? Dang it, I got so into it, and then it ended. It is too good to just end like that. You must write more. :D

Thanks for the kind words!

That´s true, the country (Daincyr) is vaguely based on Celtic myths and I use many names from or inspired by Welsh (yes, I love it as well).

Nice story, Maedhros. I especially liked your hero, very conflicted and dark. The pics superimposed over the "real life" backgrounds look great. I'm particularly fond of of the sunrise over the battlements pic. The ending was good, the open ended-ness adds a sense of realism, as if this were an account of a real person. I do hope you give us a sequel, though.

If I had to make a criticism, the only thing I can think of is that i would have liked to have seen a little more with Kazumi at the beginning. I wanted to know more about her, see the connection between her and Dadweir. But that's just nit-picking.

Overall, really nice job.

Thanks! Photoshoping all those pics can be a pain but it´s worth it, I wish I could have done all of them but there wasn´t enough time!

And about a sequel.. that´s not really going to happen, this is a stand alone story after all, not a beginning chapter and I want it to remain that way. On the other hand I have written, and will write more in the same world (but it´s about 25 years later). Not very much in the way of illustrations yet but I think I have 40 or so pages of text which you can see over on Castle World if you want to...

And about Kazumi, you are probably right... but as I said, it´s all about time and space... ;)

Heh heh... Thanks. Though, I'm not really sure you need to give me any credit for that.

I really like your story, and left a bit of a longer reply on CW...

Good luck. :)

Well... since I was the one who taught you that word in the first place I suppose that makes us square :P
