I'm killing Ikros

Post by SavaTheAggie »

Or rather, part of it. Long ago I added a section to my site called 'The Records of Ikros', a guestbook using a free service I had found.

Well, that seemed to be a bad idea, because since then I've received more heckles than encouragement by about ten fold. In the past year I've had to delete more than 500 obscene jeers from my guestbook, and as you would see upon visiting it*, I have more to delete.

I suspect that this is a major factor in why I've been unable to get up the gumption to finish the next chapter, and so I have decided that this weekend I will be deleting and permanently removing the feature from my site. And maybe, just maybe, I can feel renewed enough to continue onward.

--Tony

*WARNING - visiting the Ikros guestbook should only be done by those who are not easily offended. There's some nasty stuff in there.

Well if all it did was cuase trouble then I,m glad to see it go! 8) However, it was Ikros that pointed me this way in the first place, it's also a great story, I can't wait for it to continue! Also please don't wright a topic name like that, I nearly went into shock

I'm glad you're not actually killing Ikros. I've been a huge fan of it since I first read it almost two years ago. By all means, if the guestbook is what's keeping you down (for the most part), delete it. I certainly won't miss it.

P.S. I think you make titles like that just to make us post. ;)

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that Anthony. I've never visited the records before, and I'm appalled to see what some people will write. It's those kind of people that just make my blood boil....

Anthony, never ever post a topic titled "I'm Killing Ikros" again, I was terribly worried for a minute there! :P

Makes sense to delete it if it's just a bother, it's always good to get rid of annoyances.

Sava, I just posted on your guestbook and almost everything I wrote was in good taste. Seriously though, I read some of the posts and I see what you mean. I understand why you'd want to shut it down. A few clowns ruin it for everybody. Just like reality TV.

Oh my... I know how those kind of comments feel like. And unfortunately we tend to blame ourselves instead of the idiots who do it... *shrugs sadly*

I think I have said it before but I´ll say it again: Ikros is great! I´m not sure I would read it in bookform but it´s easily the best LEGOstory out there. You have a good storyline and some excellent MOCs and your photoediting skills are very good! (And from all posts here already it seems you have a solid fanbase as well ;))

I really hope you find some inspiration to work soon, and good luck!

Never, never, never do that ever again. For real.

Anyway, smart move. I've rarely seen a guestbook that makes a site better.

Would you have posted if I written "I'm deleting the Guestbook on Ikros.net"? ;) Besides. I am a drama queen... err... king. I love melodrama, when I can bend, twist, and pervert it to my own benefit.

Exit, stage right!

(Plus it's a nice contrast to the nasty things in the guestbook to know people still care about what I do with the website)

Seeing the horrendous state of the guestbook, I perfectly understand why you're closing it. I added a positive comment, just for the sake of contribution and loyalty. Forgot about the losers further down. On here, we all think your wrok's great.

You know... with how long it's been between updates, I was really expecting this to mean "I haven't got the time, I'll never finish it, so I'm just going to officially let it hang."

Excuse me while I restart my not-beating heart.

Yeah, you'd think we'd be used to it by now, wouldn't we?

It really sucks that the guest book has to go, but if it's causing a problem with the system, don't waste time and just get rid of it.

Yeah, I deleted the guestbook on Brick Tales long ago. It was just annoying to read the get a life/job/girlfriend entries by idiots.

I know how you feel. I recently had to get rid of the Shoutbox on my Timmy site, which by the way is no longer a fansite, just so you know.

Sorry for digging this old thread up again, just wanted to note that after seeing your post (and the incredibly crude comments on your guestbook, I raced to the guestbook on my story site to see if I had suffered the same fate.

Not sure, because the owner of my message board service has temporarily shut down guestbooks due to the spammers and idiots posting garbage on other's guestbooks. Is it possible people make a hobby of this? Amazing.

Anyway, hope all improves.
