Also, in a game with a bunch of soldiers, it might get hard to keep track of HP. The movement seems a bit slow as well. Also, the weapons seem extremely weak in comparison with the crewmen's health.

I know. I don't really know what to do about that, other than having smaller crews.

Maybe the regular grunts roll a die or something when attacked; if the die total is above the attack total, he survives, and if not, he dies. The important people (captains, first mates, etc.) have HP, or just more die than a regular crewman.
