So converting people increases piety? Ill have to try that. Sad that all the cardinals arent gathered in rome all the time, so i could just assasinate all with more piety than mine
Another problem has occured: Does quiting a crusade decrease ur reputation with the pope critically. Cause France have started attacking me, and i need the dismounted knights and yoemen in my army heading for the crusade at home?

Yep, it definitely will. Especially if you've already sent an army out on crusade.
If you decide not to go on crusade from the beginning and just send no army, your reputation with the pope will only suffer slightly, usually only 2 or 3 factions join a crusade, so the pope can't get mad at every single one that doesn't.
But if you've already engaged in the crusade and sent an army out on crusade (when they have the cross above their banner), pulling that army out will not only anger the pope very badly, it will also piss off the men of your army that you sent on crusade in the first place: they will desert your army when you stop sending them towards the target of the crusade.

That's very clever of France, knowing the bulk of your army would be out on crusade. Yep that's a choice you'll have to make: fight with the army stationed there and possibly lose a region, or call back your crusading army and anger both the pope and the army in question, and risk a great number of your men deserting.
You'll find the game is full of decisions like this, because there's just too many unpredictable factions around that don't follow your plan ;)

Yep, that's the thing with England, it's a long way to go to the middle east to go on crusade. What you can do, though, is send your army there first (over land or on a boat) and then announce that they're going on crusade. That way your men won't get impatient, because the moment they "find out" they're on crusade, they're already right next to the crusade's target. The only problem with that, is that other christian factions may get there first: An army on crusade gets twice the movement points per turn.

As England I conquered the whole of Europe and honestly do you really care what the pope thinks? After taking over the mainland I invaded Italy, I had already been excomunicated so I didn't care and I actually killed the pope twice. Never stopped me! So you really don't need to worry about it if you just want to steamroll Europe. Btw mailed knights slaughter in the begining.

I love Medieval 2: Total War! The level of realism is just awesome. I like being able to use real tactic in an RTS, not just "my army's bigger than yours so I win". Remember "Numbers alone do not win a battle." I haven't played online yet but I'd like to.

I started playing as England. I strongly recommend that the first things you do is make France your ally and completely annihilate Scotland.

The first time I played, I played the "holy german empire" but I had my problems.
1. No money
2. No allies
3. all around me were enemys :-(
4. The mongols.
5. The pope-->excumunication-->crusader against me!

The first game was horrible, just horrible.
But then after playing some other countrys I reloaded that game and...I won, first I sold-->traded my lands, then I invaded Denmark, then Skaninavia, the the whole See there with Nowgorod, the Ireland and then England and Scottland.
I had my fun, nobody else had a real fleet...so I took North-Africa and Sicily.
While all this happend I had just less problems with the people on the land. I owned all harbours in the north... and soon all in the south.
I attacked Spain...it was weak, it had fought endless war against Portugal and some Italians. So, I came from all coasts and soon it was mine.
Then Italy, the Near-East, Greek, Croatia. Now I owened all harbours. So and then I built all bigger and then I built my army. I begunn invading France, that was easy, then Poland which setteled there where my German Empire came from.
The only problem I had were the mongols.
Big Generals, big armies and then all 10 Armys are on the same point...that was hard, but I won after playing...some weeks.

I turned in options the grafic on highest, then I turned the armies into biggest. My PC can handle it did I think.
He could, exept some battles were I and the enemy had more then one army, there came this silly information:
Reinforcements too late?
Turn your Grafik options down or buy a new processor!

I thought what? I had a new PC from 2010 and a ame from 2006 said that... :orc:

Has sombody ever tried a LotR patch? It's awesome!

I love face-rolling Scotland while playing as the Danes. I had an army of 400 or so axeman against 250 or so Scottish spear men, and I suffered only 4 casualties... Quite a "crushing defeat" for them it was.. :tasty:

Whenever someone asks me about Medieval 2, I describe it as the awkward teenager, with Rome being the cute kid and Napoleon/Empire being the mature adult. Somehow, to me it just seems... incomplete. I dunno why. I guess it' just my opinion, but personally I'd play Rome if I were in such a mood.
If I were to make something out of LEGOs, I would probably use LEGOs. Pretty advanced stuff going on up in my head.

Started getting back into Medieval this week after not touching it for a coupla years. Due to the stupid nVidia issue, I can't fight battles but I'm happy with just playing at the strategic map level. Shall have a crack at Viking Invasion next and then install the XL mod.

Then I'll kick into Medieval 2. Downloaded the Stainless Steel mod last night and shall go looking for the LotR mod too.

Fun times.

I took Great Pleasure in sacking Milan, Genoa, Bologna and then Rome after The Milanese Pope excommunicated my Venetican Faction when we retook Venice :?

Great game, Rome Total War is better for battle play though IMO. 10 teams of Elite Armoured Hoplites, 4 Greek Cavalry and two groups of Cretian Archers are nearly unstoppable

england is a very good choice for your first time but as you move on you will get bored with it, spain is good for building an economy as long as you keep good relations with france, secure the penninsula and defeat te moors, bud your navy and make as any trading allies as possible especially sicily( or defeat it right away), raise a small but well aroured and trained army and take over some coastal towns turn these into castles and make peace if possible with the local fractions, then build up your major citys and start to build two massive armys, use one army to sweep north and destroy fance, milan, england, scotland and venice, stop at the holy roman empire because they will usually be very strong either build a relation with them or fortify the border and prepare to attack. use the other army to go east use your navy to move fast and take it one faction at a time and turn the others against each other use the byzantine empire as your main ally after taking the middle east go north with this strategy you wont take the whole world but you shouldnt have money problems

the best choice is the holy roman empire, but i warn you there will never be peace, first take all the rebel settlements and milan quickly then take the islands off the coast of italy, make alliances with england, poland, and hungary, and the papal states of course, start preparing to invade france then when it is time make the move, while this happening attack denmark, once this is over consolidate your troops and build a navy use those to simultaniously invade sicily, spain, and the moors, offer portugal an alliance if they help you defeat spain and once spain is no more trade with portugal until her wealth has been built and then take her citys and bask in the glory, once you have the south and west in your control take england and scotland use your ships to blockade englands ports and join scotland in a joint attack on england once the sun has set on britains empire take scotland, now you have the north, start to march your troops to your eastern most city and start to prepare to invade poland and russia, while you do this start to train a army like you have never raised before in sicily and use it to attack the middle east give jerusalem to th pope to keep him in your favor, then send that army north to conquer the byzantine and turk citys while you are doing this sned the army of the north to attack poland and russia, once your forces meet in the north east take out your final enemies the hungarians and the venicians
