Free builds probably won't count yet, since we'll need people to focus on development tasks first. Once we really get rolling, maybe after first global challenge, we will start allowing those to count for points.

Hello everyone!

In my free time I've made a few banners for the LCC project and wanted to show you. I don't want to be disrespectful with Lord_of_orks, who made the first banners, so please Im just asking if I can use it!

Here are some samples:

Again, Im sorry if I'm doing something wrong! Please tell me! :?
And If it's ok, all of them are in my Flickr account in a specific album:

I do like them, but is there any way to make them a little thinner and/or smaller? We don't want the banners to be so large and ornate as to be a distraction to the forum.

Also, as long as you're playing around with them, can you make the colors match the official faction colors a little more closely? The green and blue ones in particular, since the red and black are pretty standard shades.

Sure! Actually they're just a bit bigger than the original ones, so I can make them smaller.
About the colors, I'll work on it and post again, then you can tell me if it's the right tonality. :D

FAQ update:

CAN I USE A NAME FROM [FAVORITE FANTASY INFLUENCE]?
We've seen a few creations where names and descriptions seem to be ripped almost straight out of various fantasy stories, especially the A Song of Ice and Fire series. We're all influenced by different material, which is great, but please put the effort in to at least make up your own character and location names. We don't want LCC to turn into A Skyrim of Ice and Rings.

Do you have examples? Because I am heavily inlfuenced by ASOIAF but I tried to make up names my self and not let them be too similar to Westerosi names. But since I'm reading it in Dutch I don't know all of the English names.

The name game ruling is interesting...but just like Elderon...I find myself wondering who is using Character names from series?

Also just a quick note...many authors choose character names from their culture or through studies into history. For example Gimli is an old Welsh name which I believe means "Fire". ;) Although it might be easy to assume that many names are from novels...you can also assume that somewhere in this world that someone was named for example "Gimli" before it was written in a book for fiction.

I'd rather not point fingers publicly, but PM anyone who are too obvious. It's not really a big issue (yet) either, just trying to be a little proactive and give some advice.

Since you ask though - in your latest Flickr creation (which is great, by the way) you use the name Velaryon. I know it's not LCC and that you might already be aware, but this is a name used in ASOIAF :)

Ooh I get it now. I was still thinking of city names and so on. I know that Velaryon is a name from ASOIAF, that's why I picked it actually, only it is a last name of a minor character in ASOIAF and I use it a first name. It's not really a subtle reference but I liked it as a first name. And it still actually is the first name of my character here in LCC but if it's still too obvious I'll change it. And I didn't ask to point fingers at other people, but more towards myself actually.
Thanks for the explanation and the compliment on my creation :D

Hmmm...why not change the letters up in the name and go with Valeryon. ;)

I use eastern-European names for my characters and their environements. For example, the father of my character is named Wladyzlaw, after my deceased grandfather (who was of Polish origin). Teherean is a name I read in a piece about German medieval history (though I am not sure how and where.)

Point is: I see no problem in using real languages to name things. I've had some voices against doing so, but to me it seems like a good idea.

Since we're talking about our inspirations, I thought it would be a good time to tell about mine. :)

When I was reading one day I came across a reference to a Roman Philosopher named Anicius Manlius Severinus Boëthius. Quite the mouthful I know. I thought that it was a cool name but never did anything with it. A year or two later my cousin was telling me about Oblivion, and he told me he had to do this quest for this guy named Boethiah. I remembered the name and looked up who Boethiah was. He/She, (Daedra are neither male nor female so...) I found out was the Prince of Plots, but once again I couldn't find any use for it. Well now I have found a use for it! I loosely based some of my CIC on parts of Boëthius' life, but very loosely. Heres the wiki if you want to check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boethius
