From the official report and interrogation of Willie Braun, discharged Loreesi soldier:
"Ted and I were assigned to guard duty along the southern border and we decided to slip across during our R&R period. The officers had expressly forbidden such a thing, but everyone knew there was nothing to be afraid of. The Lenfald invasion of the Outlaw territory had scared the beejeebus out of the mudsucking scum who lived in the forests, mountains and swamps. The forests and mountains along the border were empty, that was certain. We were part of the new garrison and we hadn't even seen a single creature since we arrived two weeks before the day we crossed the border.

It was a sunny day and we were feeling lighthearted as we headed off for a day of carefree exploration. Neither of us had ever been this far from home and seeing trees this big was a novelty. It was fun but throughout the morning I felt like someone or something was watching us. I saw Ted glance nervously over his shoulder a few times but he forced a laugh when he saw me notice. "Just looking for old Sarge Hurklebum. He's probably hopping mad that we are gone!", Ted chuckled, as he dashed off into the woods. Him being out of sight made me worried and I hurried after him. He came walking towards me with a smirk on his face and one hand behind his back. When he got close, he pulled a big red snake out from behind his back. "Got ya!", he shouted. I stood paralyzed as a large furry face pushed its way out of the trees and a high-pitched voice hissed, "Noooo...I haaave yoooooou......" I turned and ran as fast as I could but I couldn't out-distance the screams."

There were notes in the margin of the report, signed Lt. Hundlestone. They read,"Soldier Braun is apparently suffering from delusions brought on by overheat and exposure. His story is obviously a fabrication. He was found wandering in the desert, north of camp, alone. The whereabouts of his friend, Soldier Ted Nocklore, are unknown at this time. Soldier Braun had to be subdued and dragged back to the border camp. He kept shouting, "Not South! I won't go South!". He has been dishonorably discharged and charged with desertion and dereliction of duty".
AFOL and his money are easily parted.
