LCC-GC4 And so it begins...

Post by Elderon »

Swiftly, and with cat-like reflexes the figures leaped through the streets. He looked across the street and saw several other figures going the same way. The great castle loomed over them like some sort of stone beast, waiting to strike them down.

They arrived at the great wall and with ease threw ropes attached to grappling hooks on the battlements. They knew no guards would be there for several minutes, more then enough for them to enter the castle.

They topped the wall and arrived at the keep without so much as breaking a sweat and proceeded to follow their way to their target. Silently their feet ran the stairs up in to the great tower. Two guards came in their way, and two guards where left in a small niche, dead, without so much as making a sound.
Now came the hard part, if one would call it that. One of his brothers threw a small knive, planting it just below the ear, killing the guard in front of the door immediately.

The door was locked, but with a little metal rod he opened it with a sot click. They entered the room, but not quietly enough...
A longsword came at them, which they avoided just barely. He drew his blade and sliced the neck of the man trying to kill them. The King struggled and grabbed his cloak, but died soon after. Their mission was accomplished and yet another target was victim to the their blades. They opened the window and tied one of their ropes to the bed, with a knot they could easily untie from the other end. As swiftly as they came, they were gone again, leaving hardly a trace that they were there to begin with. Except for the dead bodies.

The captain of the guard rushed in the room and saw the King in a puddle of blood, with his son and members of the court around him. The atmosphere was riddled with sorrow and mourning and he was startled. How, in the name of the gods could this have happened? How did they bypass the guards and get in here so quickly? Surely magic had to be involved in this matter. A retribution from the purging of the Magic Isles perhaps? No, that would be impossible so soon after.
He walked over to the body and inspected it. He discovered a small piece of cloth in the hand of the King, not bigger than a fingernail. It was of fine quality, with threads of silver woven into it. He knew this fabric, for he had seen it before during his travels through the southern deserts. There he had encountered a group of warriors, renowned for their stealth tactics and their many ways of killing men. There was no doubt in his mind when he whispered one simple word, silencing every man and woman in the chamber....

"Areani...."

And so it has finally come to this. The spark to light the powderkeg in Roawia. War is upon us, lads. Choose your side!

Story is written by me and polished by AK_Brickster. First, second and last pictures by Mark of Falworth, third picture by AK-Brickster and fourth and fifth picture by me. Please wait till the second post by AK before you guys add comments!

CHALLENGE:

The king is now dead and it is highly suspected that the hands of the Areani are to blame. Roawia is suddenly up for grabs, and a brutal struggle is about to take place. This global challenge will test your abilities in a way not seen before in the LCC.

To participate, you will PM your Faction Overseer with the subject line, "GC4 Sign Up". Your faction overseer will then randomly assign you a fortification previously built for LCC by another member. We will generally be pulling them from a list we have compiled from the official LCC Flickr pool.

If your assignment is someone from your faction, then you must build a version of it in your own style showing it being defended from attack by an enemy faction.

If your assignment is someone from an opposing faction, then you must build a version of it in your own style showing it either being attacked by your faction's forces, OR you can choose to ally with them to repel an attack by a third faction.

You need not show who is winning/losing, simply show it being attacked or defended. Depending on your assignment, a full-scale siege may be in order, or a smaller skirmish might be appropriate. Feel free to build out the surrounding countryside as much or as little as you need in order to accommodate your own creative vision.
If you are assigned a large MOC and do not have the ability (either due to a lack of time or bricks) to replicate the whole thing, you can build a portion of it as your entry.

RULES:

Entries will be accepted from today through May 19th. You may PM your Faction Overseer anytime up to the deadline for an assignment.
The creation must include your LCC character and your faction standard and/or colors. There are no size or base limitations.
Submit your entries in this thread, using thumbnails and a link to either the MOC forum or Flickr/MOCpages/etc.

ALSO - Please provide information about the MOC that your entry is based on at the bottom of your entry in the format:
Original MOC: (LINK)
Created by: (ORIGINAL BUILDER NAME)
Faction: (FACTION OF ORIGINAL BUILDER )
One entry per participant.

Determination of Winners:
As in past Global Challenges, once the entry phase is closed, a “finalist” from each faction will be selected by popular faction vote. The finalist from each faction will be entered into a global vote. Finalists should be selected based on the following criteria:

- MOC Quality (this should go without saying)
- Interpretation of subject material (How well does it represent the original fortification while still being in the style of the current builder? - We don't want these to be exact replicas),
- Story Telling (LCC is, at it's heart, a series of interwoven stories. Be sure to include at least a short narrative with your MOC)

Whichever faction's finalists receives the most votes will be awarded the Global Points for winning the challenge.
Each finalist will receive a prize, based on how many votes they receive in the final voting round.

PRIZES/REWARDS:

Faction Rewards:
Each entry will earn 5 global points for your faction. The faction who wins the final vote earns an additional 10 global points.

The faction who wins the final vote of this GC will gain an advantage in the struggle to seize control of Roawia now that the king has been killed.

Current faction standings are (GC1+GC2+GC3 = total):
Garheim - 55+45+60 = 160
Lenfald - 45+30+75 = 150
Loreos - 40+40+42.5 = 122.5
Outlaws - 25+40+32.5 = 97.5

Personal Rewards:
Entry into the contest earns you 6 personal points.
Faction Finalists will receive an additional 10 personal points.

Personal Prizes:
As you might know, we’ve recently acquired a sponsorship from a terrific vendor, Custom Minifig Syndicate (CMS), who will be supplying most of the prizes for this GC.

Fantastic! :twitch:
By the way the links lead to flickr images that are still private.

Edit: now I've taken it all in - that fantastic also went for the builds, the photography and the story - talk about setting a standard.

Yes, they were not uploaded to Elderon's Flickr stream in order, so they'll be private for a few days until most people have learned about the GC. Hopefully the thumbnails will suffice until then :)

Oh ok, You can change the order if you want, by altering the times - did it today with the LC10 image.

That is intentional. I decided to keep them like that, at least for a while. The pictures are not in the right order, so it would be a shame if someone stumbled on them and saw the great reveal to soon  . I'll "un-private" it in a couple of days so you can admire the photo's

Very fascinating, I like the way you managed to let people chose their allies and foes for each build themselves. The concept of revisiting somebody else's work is nice too, so you can count me in on this!

Ps. Not to turn this into a smack talk thread, but is it any surprise that the officially oh so loyal Loreesi would be the ones to slay the King and spawn chaos?

Now wait one minute! We Loreesi are loyal to our King, we would not dare attempt such a crime, unlike you treacherous Lenfeld tree-huggers...jk! :)

Question is it not our duty to stay loyal to our factions so would it not be a breach of that to Allie with any other members of enemy factions during this conflict?

I'd say, it is our duty to remain loyal to our Kingdom. If our kingdom falls to a civil war or a dramatic shift in power between the factions, the losing factions of such a conflict/change shall be next. So I can imagine, that Loreos and Garheim would team-up, if Lenfald would try to make a permanent claim on the throne, for the Kingdom and for self-preservation.

I sure picked the right time to join LCC. Let's think of something nice (globally), before signing up for this one...

I'd suggest taking location into account when deciding if you're going to attack an enemy fortress or help them defend it from a third faction. Maybe communicate with other members of your faction to see if there is a general strategy that you'd like to employ to ally with or attack another faction. :eyebrows:
