LCC and the annual CCC - Free Builds
Attention anyone and everyone:
We will likely be hosting some LCs and maybe even a GC centered around a few categories of the CCC that starts November 1st.
Once we know what the categories are, we will be able to better figure out what sort of LCs/GCs will work best with the CCC categories.
What we DO know now is that we will be allowing all CCC entries to be counted as free builds for LCC, provided they meet standard LCC requirements (ie, you should involve your character somehow, the your faction's banner should be included, etc.).
Now, obviously, you may not want your CCC entry to include your figure, have the banner, etc. What I recommend in those cases is to take seperate photos for CCC and LCC. If the CCC category is "Siege", but you'd like your LCC character to be visiting to sell wares or something, just take pics for the CCC and then remove the catapults/troops/etc, and add your figure and faction banner along with short story tying it in to your LCC character.
Since we are allowing all CCC entries as free builds (no limit of 2/mo), each FO reserves the right to reject a CCC entry as a FB if he feels it doesn't fit the above LCC requirements. Also, you can only earn 2 points per category, so if you're like Mark and build two entries for each CCC category, you can only earn FB points for the first entry into each category.
The standard rule for 2 free builds/month still applies for non CCC entries, so if you want/need to use something other than a CCC build to continue your story, you'll still have that option available.
The guild hall rule of "must be built exclusively for the guild hall" still applies, so CCC entries will not be allowed as guild hall submissions.
Fair enough?

Why are those guild hall entries treated differently? It does not make any sense in my opinion.AK_Brickster wrote:The guild hall rule of "must be built exclusively for the guild hall" still applies, so CCC entries will not be allowed as guild hall submissions.

Primarily because there are only 9 tasks for each guild, and you only get to do them once.Rifiröfi wrote:Why are those guild hall entries treated differently?
The idea is that as you're progressing through a guild, you're supposed to be showing off your very best building ability, and each guild entry should be built specifically with the goal of achieving the objective of that guild challenge. If you've built a MOC for another purpose and are just trying to re-purpose something to "fit" so that you can use it for the guild hall, then that's really not in the spirit of what the guild hall was created for.
I hope that makes sense.

Re: LCC and the annual CCC - Free Builds
So we can do an unlimited amount of 2-point free-builds in the duration of the CCC? To me, that doesn't make much sense... Perhaps I am reading this wrong?

Re: LCC and the annual CCC - Free Builds
Not unlimited FBs. You'll be able to use your CCC entries as free builds though, and the only limit to that is that you can only earn points once for each category. (So if you build 5 entries but they are all for my imaginary CCC "siege" category, you can only earn 2 points for the first one. If you build 5 entries for 5 different CCC categories, you can earn 2 points each for all 5 entries - a total of 10 points.)
You'll also still be allowed to build the normal 2 FBs per month for 2 points each.
Is that more clear?

It kinda does I see your point, but...AK_Brickster wrote:Primarily because there are only 9 tasks for each guild, and you only get to do them once.Rifiröfi wrote:Why are those guild hall entries treated differently?

- 1. You're supposed to be showing off your very best building ability: if you submit a build to the CCC you inherently try to show your best building skills anyway
2. Each guild entry should be built specifically with the goal of achieving the objective of that guild challenge: If someone submits an epic siege scene for the CCC and tries to sell it as a merchants guild entry "Showing your wealth acquired as a result of your trading career" (completely wrong category) no one would wonder if it is rejected. But there is a castle category every year which would be consistent with a masons guild entry "Build a castle with an outer wall, an inner wall, and a keep".

Re: LCC and the annual CCC - Free Builds
I'm pretty much in agreement with you on those scenarios, but if it's open to a subjective decision, I don't want to have to deal with people complaining that they spent hours building some entry for CCC but they are mad that their MOC wasn't allowed to be used in the guild, but someone else's was. Keeping it black and white eliminates any potential for confusion.Rifiröfi wrote:It kinda does I see your point, but...
My point is, what if the CCC category and the guild hall challenge are practically the same? What do you think?

Since there are only 9 builds per guild, I don't think it's too much of an extra hardship to have to make original builds for each one. It's not like there is a deadline or anything. It's meant to be a fun diversion from normal LCC challenges and something tailor-made for those who can't necessarily crank something out in time to meet deadlines.

I see, one last question though...AK_Brickster wrote:I'm pretty much in agreement with you on those scenarios, but if it's open to a subjective decision, I don't want to have to deal with people complaining that they spent hours building some entry for CCC but they are mad that their MOC wasn't allowed to be used in the guild, but someone else's was. Let's assume that someone builds something for a guild challenge, submits it after November 1st, you accept it, everyone is happy. One week later that naughty builder submits it as an entry for CCC. Hypothetically speaking, his evil plan is actually legal: submitted as guild entry first, then as a CCC entry. According to the CCC rules:
Submissions can be entered into other LEGO contests but still must meet our category requirements. You can not submit any creations posted online or shown in public before November 1st, 2012.
It is a classical case of "the chicken or the egg" dilemma (I had egg for dinner). What is the verdict on this one? Guilty or not guilty? Or in case of an outlaw, is he guilty or more guilty?

Fair enough. I guess we'll just have to see how determined people are to break the rules

I think this one is fair enough. Although I think it would be more in the spirit of both the Guild Hall and CCC if everyone just built separate entries for eachRifiröfi wrote:
