BrickWorld Castle Display Plans

Attention all BrickWorld attendees!

The guys in charge of laying out where each theme will have tables in the display hall have finally given me the official map. The Castle area will be along the front wall near the entrance of the main display hall. (It had been along the back wall originally.) The tables for Castle are basically in a big "Ü" shape, with the open end of the Ü up against the wall, allowing an area in the middle to sit/talk/hide from stupid crown questions/etc. There will be stanchions around the tables to keep people from touching. (What is it about shiny LEGO swords that turn kids into little thieves?)

In order to do as much preplanning as we can, I'll need to know what people are bringing for the collaborative display. I realize that there will be at least a few attendees who will bring Castle MOC's but don't read the forums here. I will try to work in everything that I can, but in the event that we run out of room, those who have replied here in the Classic-Castle.com forums will get first priority. :D

There are some MOC's, like farm/field sections, where we can more or less wing it when it comes to arranging them in a collaborative display. Other types of MOC's, like CCC walls, will need more careful planning to make sure that they all come together in a coherent arrangement. In order to have a layout plan ready, I'll need to know what people will be bringing in these main areas:

Castle Wall Sections
• What size of walls are you bringing? - CCC or Tall Wall
• Which shape are they? - straight, corner (tower) or gate
• How many of each shape & size?
• What color are your walls? - Walls are assumed to be mostly light gray, unless specified otherwise

Rural Area
• Do you have a way of labeling your trees? - Something simple like a dot of paint underneath each works. Custom foliage doesn't need this, of course.
• What size and how many field sections are you bringing?
• Are you bringing a Base8 area? What size and shape is it?
• Are you bringing Forestmen MOC's? Do you have plenty of forest for them to inhabit, or do you need others to help with the greenery?
• Are you bringing any nonfarm landscaping features? - ponds, caves, etc.

Other MOC's
• Are you bringing any stand-alone MOC's that can go in the collaborative display?
• What size are they?
• Will you be staging any massive battles?
Please note that stand-alone castle MOC's don't have to be displayed with the main Castle display if you don't want them to be. You can sign up for your own MOC tables on the BrickWorld website.

Naval Area
We're not sure if we're going to have a naval/landing area. It will depend on interest.
• No height-upping beaches or cliffs will be needed; all the tables we're using are the same height.
• Is anyone bringing Viking or other medieval age ships?
• If you have ships, do you have a decent number of blue baseplates for water?

Feel free to reply to this thread, PM me or email me at Image.

REMINDERS:

• The normal rate for the hotel where BrickWorld will be held at is $230 per night. The special BrickWorld rate is HALF that. Plus if you room with someone, that cuts the special $115 per night rate in half. After June 14 the rate jumps back up to $230 per night, so don't forget to book your room.

• Blank green baseplates are always welcome at a Castle layout. If you have some extra, please bring them.

See you there!

David,

I plan on bringing atleast 3 32x32 baseplate fields for the farm standard. I will likely also bring a few small tudor buildings and a tower which will fit on a 32x32 baseplate.

I am also interested in giving a castle related presentation. Who do I talk to to get a time and place (like a lecture hall with presentation equipment) to do this. Please let me know what I need to do. Thanks.

I'm bringing (2) models -
#1 - (2) 32x32 baseplates - dragon wings extend past the baseplates. This has 2 large trees in a forest vien.

#2 - (1) 32x32 baseplate - has a small farmer type (destroyed) hut with several custom trees.

I'll throw together some other custom trees that can be used in the larger display as well. ( let's say 5? or so)

I have a basic layout that you can see here. The brown line at the bottom is where the wall will be.

Any suggestions are welcome. Any of the areas can br shrunk or expanded, depending on how many of each kind of Castle MOC's people bring.

I'm not entirely sure there's enough room on that entire layout for all the beasties you could bring to the party, Cajun. ;)

I will be bringing an entry for the "Hut Obliteration" contest. It's 4 green baseplates and would fit in the rural section.

Minifig armies. The MF's can be humans, skeletons, Green Goblins, etc. One thing I'd like to mention is that you should not put "standard" castle MF's in the big battle. (A "standard" MF is something like a Black Falcon knight that is exactly like he appeared in the set.) I'm afraid that if people brought those, then there might be some mix ups of who's is who's at the end. It doesn't take much to differentiate your MF's from other people's though. A unique weapon or a different head can change a standard MF into one that you can easily identify as your own. Some people also put tiny slips of paper with their initials (The owner's initials; not the MF's  ) in their MF's torsos, so that if a MF is in doubt you can simply pull him apart to see who he belongs to. This guideline only applies to areas of open ground where there will be lots of MF's from various people. For the MF's that you have on/in your MOC's you can use whatever you want.

If we have room, we can also include dragons and other beasts in the battle. Of course some have creatures that take up more room than others... 8)

When we all set up the battle at BW, I'd like to make it something really active and dynamic looking. I know that some people keep their castle armies with all the MF's lined up in ranks on baseplates, and I've seen people just plop down a baseplate of MF's in the battle area and call it good. For examples of what I'd like to do please see these pics from the Castle area at BrickFest PDX. There are MF's in lines/ranks, but they just look so much better when they're charging. :D

The available spots for city wall sections (both Tall and CCC) are almost gone. If you'll be bringing a wall section of either size to Brickworld, please let me know so that I can include it in the layout.

Thanks,
David

I'll set these threads free since BW has already started.
