Benton Harbor Area, MI - The Michigan LEGO Users Group (MichLUG) is pleased to announce that it will be displaying at the Curious Kids Museum in St. Joseph, MI. This display is in conjunction with the Museum's Annual LEGO Creation Contest. This is the second year MichLUG has participated with the museum. Here are the show details:

Saturday-Sunday, April 17-18, 2004
Curious Kids Museum
415 Lake Boulevard
St. Joseph, MI 49085
Show Hours: Saturday 10am-5pm & Sunday - 12pm-5pm
Admission: $4.00

MichLUG will be presenting a 15'x15' layout with several loops of trains running through town and suburban scenes. The town will include models built by kids who participated in two Build Workshops that MichLUG presented at the Museum on March 20th. The club will also be featuring a separate 5'x10' layout with a large island fortress, a medieval village and a pitched battle between the forces of good and evil. There will be an additional table for models ranging from underwater fantasy creations to space exploration vehicles. A play table will be available for kids and adults alike to indulge in the building spirit.

The castle table will feature creations by Jason Spears, Peter Guenther, Ken Koleda, & Larry Pieniazek. It could feature creations by you! If you live in Michigan (or somewhere near southwest Michigan) contact me at spearjr at hotmail dot com and we can talk about working your creations into the layout.

Even if you don't want to display, coming out and taking a look at the layout and meeting other castle builders should be interesting.

Here are some pics from the show. The castle layout came out very nicely! The more buildings you have, the better it looks. Jason was able to achieve a VERY crowded look as we had a large number of buildings, from 6 builders(1), in the city.

A more full report will be posted at the MichLUG site in due time.

1 - Jason Spears, Peter Guenther, Ken Koleda, Trevor Koleda, Larry Pieniazek and Nik Pieniazek (2)
2 - er, technically 7, because there were Dan Siskind creations there as well... 2 blacksmith shops and his BrickMania tavern set.

Number of Houses?

The layout was very crowded (a good thing) and I had meant to count all the houses to see how many we had on there. Since I forgot to count, I thought I'd do some calculations and figure it out.

We had houses by Larry P, Nik P, Ken K, Jason S, & Peter G.

Ken - 12 houses
Nik - 1 house
Peter - 5 houses
Larry - ? (Inn of the Fallen Angels, Barber Shop, Brickmania Tavern, Orange & Maersk blue) - 5
Jason - 18 (13 announced, 2 Blacksmith shops, 1 CKM Workshop house, & 2 yet to be announced).

So that makes 41 buildings in the town. Pretty sweet. I wonder what the record is?
