European Classic-Castle meet: 20th/21st/22nd of june 2008

Post by Aliencat »

Hello European Classic-Castle members!

Maedhros and myself want to organize a meeting for Classic-Castle members in Legoland, Billund, Denmark this upcoming spring. After all, what place would be more suited for this kind of meeting than Legoland?

Anyone who wants to come is more than welcome to, whether you're from Europe or elsewhere in the world (though I realise it's easier for Europeans to get to Legoland in Denmark then it is for people from other continents).

Basically we were thinking of making it a weekend thing, where we'd be in the area on saturday and sunday, and stay over at the Legoland Hotel for a night. Of course if you can only make it one day, that's fine too, it's all up to you.

This thread will serve the purpose of planning the event with those interested in coming over. If you want to come, start by posting which dates would be best for you, so that we can figure out what would be the best time for everyone.

Since I'll be in the area with my car, we can arrange pick-ups from local airports (Ärhus or Billund) or stations.

This plan is still in the early development stage, so any input or ideas are welcome. I'm sure it'll be very cool meeting all you guys :)

So please, if you're interested, let us know. Feel free to ask any questions here in this thread so Maedhros and I can answer them.

Edit: update
(check page 2 for more details)

Alright guys, we picked a final date:

The weekend of saturday the 21st and sunday the 22nd of june (and possibly friday the 20th of june too if you're up for it).
The venue will be Legoland Billund.

Now all of you who will definitely be there, let us know, and all of you who may possibly be there, let us know too!

Lol, not related directly i work at legoland caifornia, I bet if I went though I could get in free. I've been meaning to ask HR if my ID would get me in for free in other Legolands.

BTW all Legolands besides the one in California are closed in winter.

Mighty fine idea. Since there are a lot of us living in Europe, an arranged meeting would be splendid. Around summer is the best time for this kind of a gathering. Around late May, early June perhaps?

Sounds great! :D

I realise it's still in the planning stages, but I think you could put me down for a provisional appearance. I start my studies in February, but as anytime before will be too early i'll just have to take some time off- it's a justified cause.

Basically that's all i've got on my schedule though currently- anytime between February and June would be fine I think, beyond then too, but obviously I don't know what to expect next month, let alone six months' time.

Not that it's nearer or anything, but as Legoland Windsor (and indeed Legoland Deutschland) is also set in Europe it too would be a suitable host for the weekend. Maybe they could be follow-ups for later in the year/2009, or, if people were really keen, we could make an absolute tour of them. Additionally, since we're all castle builders, i'm pretty sure some visits to historical buildings or castles would be inspirational as well?

That said, I would be most interested in attending a meet-up, whatever the venue.

Those are some nice ideas you have there Richard.
If it turns out to be a success we can make it an annual thing, and visit a different Legoland park the next year, and the next :)

The drawback of going there during the summer is that the number of tourists increase dramatically. However, if you like queues.... ;) (isn't that one of the most stupid words of the English language btw?)

And I can see your point Richard, a tour of Wales or Scotland would be awesome! However Billund is where it all started, the true LEGOland... we got to start there as well, no? ;)

Threads about meetings and events should go in the Displays forum. I will move this thread there.

Having a gathering of CC fans in Europe is a great idea. In North America, CC members often meet at fests.

That was our thought exactly. There's different events in different countries here, but for CC members from all over Europe to meet, there aren't enough opportunities :)

And although Legoland will be quite busy in summer, a lot of people are busy with school or work outside of the summer holidays, so we may have to go for a busier season, but that can't stop the fun one bit :P

Hey,

If you guys are planning on doing something at a Legoland, you should let Jan Beyer know. He may be able to help you arrange things.

Has anyone checked Eurobricks? I know they organize a gathering at Billund every year. It's growing to be quite a product, so far as I can remember.

Sounds like a good idea. I would love to be able to do this, but with Europe being the way it is it may be difficult - which country would 'we' go to, what times would be best for the most people, are our various different languages an issue, etc.

Good idea, I'll send him an e-mail :)

Yeah but we were thinking of making this a Classic Castle thing instead of a Eurobricks thing :)

Yeah finding a place and a time that suits everyone is difficult indeed, which is why we're hoping for enough feedback in this thread to make this a success.

As for a place, it doesn't matter where you're from or which language you speak, Legoland is Legoland :)
As for languages, I'm sure we all speak at least some English to be able to communicate well enough to get to know eachother and hang out, it would even be nice to hear about eachother's cultures and customs etc.

Legoland isn't too bad from a geographic viewpoint either as most of our members come from Germany, Netherlands, Great Britain, Ireland, Poland and Scandinavia, no? (Just poor Yanki [sorry about the i] in Istanbul.. I'll come down to you some time in the future ;))

this sounds great! although it would be near impossible for me to go outside Britain anytime soon, but as RichardAM said:

That would be easier for me, although Im not saying everyone should change to suite my needs.
as for inspirational castles, I know its a long way from windsor, but Warwick castle is a good example, they have tons of stuff there, working trebuchets, knights kitting up then dueling each other, and an English Longbowmen.
If you are reading this it means I have posted! - congratulate your find and remember this day
