As seen in this LUGNET post today:

"There will be a 16 person bracketed chess tournament with the final match being playing on the new UCS chess board with the winner getting to take it home. This will be some kind of “speed” chess. So, start boning up your skills."

In addition to this sweet chess deal, LEGO is going to be doing a lot of generous things at Brickworld this year!

Is there any info on how to enter the chess tourney? I didn't see anything in the Lugnet post or on the Brickworld site.

It may be an event where you drop your name in a hat, and they pick contestants. The chess tournament is something that LEGO itself is doing (as opposed to something run by the BW coordinators), so unfortunately I don't have any further information. However, if you know someone who's good at chess, you could enter your name, and maybe they'll let you pass your tournament slot on to your friend.

Update - Just got this bit of info from Bryan Bonahoom:

"drop name in fish bowl at the event...drawing will be held for 16 people"

So I was wrong...it will be a fishbowl, not a hat.

Hey David. Are you excited? It looks like I got the tables I wanted so I will not need to mooch off of anyone else. Prince Imdol thanks for your gracious offer. I have a few quesitons for you David. Remember I am a convention noob. I am bringing quite a bit of stuff to the convention. Since I am commuting home each night would it be best for me to bring some on Thurs and then the rest of it on Friday? Also is it OK to attend classes and roundtable discussions and leave your creations unattended? I am looking forward to meeting you and all of the LEGO fans tomorrow.

Dale,

Fans often are setting up their mocs for the first and second days of a convention. The ballrooms should have fans in the rooms watching to make sure nothing is taken. The general public will not be allowed in these rooms until public hours. At that time we will be taking turns watching the castle table.
