This is the official thread for questions about BrickFest.

It is very important to me that this remain on topic (so people can get the answers they need for Fest).

Be warned, any off topic posts will be deleted.

I have some very important questions. Take your time on answering them, for I am going away for a few days.

1) What type of CC constructions do you need?

I have built a straight wall, but I wondered what we need to complete the display. I don't have millions of Lego, so I can't build as much as everyone else will. I just figured if I were to build only a couple of things, they should be the type of wall sections/houses that would most help out the display.

2) Is there a standard for double height walls? And is there any preference between using single and double height walls? The one wall that I have is single height.

Thanks in advance for you help. If you need me to clarify anything, I'll be back in a few days.

Right now I havent full developed what design we're going to go with for the display, so I'd recommend to bring what you'd like to. I don't except there to be any serious problems making the city complete.

The standard is current single high. AT brickfest we will discussing officially adding the double high wall. Most of the walls there should be single high. If you'd like to build double high, I'd suggest follow Jason Spears' design.

But what is more important than walls are details! Bring whatever intricate, creative additions you can. What makes the 3CS City great is more than just size, but it is also creativity and the magic of LEGO.

Lenny - I hope it is okay to ask this here.

I will not be able to make it to this one, but I'm 90% sure I'd be able to make it to the next one on this coast.

My question is, since I'm only 15, (Then 16,) what exactly would I be able to participate in exactly? Would I be able to display models if I wished like AFOL's and have a full "membership" (Not sure if that's the right word) or would I only be able to go to the public viewing? Also - If I could participate in things, would I have to drag my parents around everywhere? :P

Thanks in advance.

Excellent! I hope you can make it! This is an excellent topic for this thread.

BrickFest places limits on minors (people younger than 18) attending because of the legal liabilities of having minors attending. The thing is, until you are 18, someone is responsible for you whatever you do. That means, if you fall and break your arm, someone (other than you) is responsible (financially/legally) for that. If you're at BrickFest, the BrickEvents LLC is responsible, and could be sued, etc. So to avoid that, they make the requirement that you must have a legal guardian (ie parent) with you at all times to watch over you (that means both you and the guardian need to pay the registration fee).

Having explained that, younger members are totally welcome at BrickFest. At BrickFest PDX this past february, the winner of the Best Small Space Creation award was this cool kid who was 14 or 15.

Essentially, if you go to the BrickFest website ( http://dc.brickfest.com ) and click on 'Events Schedule' - this will show everything that is happening at BrickFest - open to any and all participants.

The Sunday Public Expo is open to anyone who pays the daily fee. If you're in the area, I really suggest coming, as it is an easy, inexpense way to meet many AFOLs plus give your parents a taste of what your hobby is all about.

I hope I answered your questions, let me know if I did not.

I seem to remember that BrickFest has also changed /developed its policy regarding under 18s, so next time it hits the West Coast, make sure to check if the policy has changed.
