Ah yes Josh the tournament was fun, yesterday while digging through boxes I found the joust field I built still intact... well mostly. Are we going to have a tournament again? We've got the room.

I've still got my little tents together all still on one 10" baseplate, if I get the time I'd like to make them a bit bigger.

Sweet! I figured that was long gone. Sure, let's have a redeux of the tournament. Your motorized joust made a great centerpiece.

Ted, do you want to try to have it inside the city walls or put it outside, so we don't have to try to surround it with the walls?

A tournament sounds fun. Especially if it has even more than just jousting. (Some One-on-one combat, other period competitions that-I-can't-think-of-yet, etc.) And having it outside city walls means it can be big and sprawling, which would be good for that faire-type feel. Just a thought.

Yep, I concur, outside the city walls with people traveling between the tournament and a market in the town.

That's kind of what I was thinking! If you've got a jousting field already I won't start on the one I was going to do and that means less for me to have to haul all that way. Whew! This is gonna be fun.

I've already begun work on an addition to Ye Olde's layout and have wet my appetite for Castle building. If I do get around to building a building for the Medieval city I'd like to use Green over Sand Green as my colors. I also put together at least 25 Forestmen not including my Sig Fig to be doing outlawish things wherever they'll fit in.

I was told I could ask general brickcon questions in this thread, but I'd be happy to start a new thread if that would be more appropriate. But I do have some questions.

1. What do people actually put on their name badges? Do they tend to put their name and their online name? I know it says to do whatever you want, but what do most people actually do?

2. If you were limited in the amount of time you could actually spend at the convention, perhaps because you were bringing your family to town, including two tiny tots who would want to see their mommy, what parts would you recommend attending? Or, what parts would be less fascinating than some others and could maybe be skipped?

3. Can you take your MOC away before 3 p.m. Sunday, if, let's say, it'd really be prudent to travel during your one-year old's naptime, which starts at 1 p.m.? (I read the FAQ's for brickfair, and they said it was your party, and you could leave whenever you wanted, but why would you want to? But... for some of us, the whole "vacation destination" is not as easily done as said... )

4. If, hypothetically, it would be fairly easy to re-build the Courtyard that got featured on this site and introduced its builder to the whole Classic-Castle experience and then bring it, would that be a good idea? (Hypothetically, you know, it wouldn't be that difficult to do....)

Asking questions here is fine. Thanks for checking though!

I'll try to answer your questions, but remember these are merely my thoughts. There are always exceptions.

1. Most people put their real name (at least their first name). Some also put their online name. Many also put whatever organizations or websites they are part of. Many long-term Con attendees have collected so many bricks that they try to put new things and add their old bricks as well. Some badges turn into body armor in those cases. My badge has my full name, a Brothers Brick brick (that sounds odd), and some bricks from previous years. My wife's badge from two years ago had her name and another brick that said "Lego Widow". Its really up to you.

2. That is hard to say at this point because the entire schedule hasn't been announced. The most social days tend to Thursday and Friday, when people are arriving and setting up. Friday is a highlight for me. Saturday has the first "Public hours" and that gets hectic. Sunday is always a big more low-key, with pranks between the themes and such going on...and sometimes Nerf battles. Its really hard to say. If I were in your position, I'd just plan to attend the days that you can and just fly with whatever happens on the day/s you can be there.

3. You can take your MOCs away whenever you want, especially if you aren't part of a collaberative display. What you are planning is a stand-alone MOC so there is absolutely no problem.

4. Anything you bring would be welcome. There will be a section for stand-alone MOCs and your courtyard would be perfect (though your rose pool is my favorite ).

The Rose Pool was just so... messy inside. Very painstaking to make, whereas the courtyard was all so precise and easy. Yeah, I'm taking the easy route here. My mom says to make something new, which might happen, but I just can't demand for creations to spring forth. I'm not that capable yet. We'll see how the bricks are looking come September. They do tend to change day to day. You'd think a brick would just be a brick, but some days they're all chatty and inspirational, and other days they're sullen and don't want to do anything. And on other days they tell me that if I just invited their cousins to come to the building party, I could make a masterpiece, but the cousins are all lots of moolah on bricklink and would be a week or two late to the party anyway.

But I digress....

I'm excited to see so may other big forest fans out there! My Surewould Fortress v.2 should make an appearance if I can get it done in time along with as much other stuff as I can get done. Hopefully something to contribute to the city as well as landscape galore. Oh... and baseplates! I'm excited!

Josh I'll try and get you a "ballpark" size soon. Also, if we end up doing roads or rivers I'll try to be able to match up with them easily. I glanced over the other posts, but my have missed this: Is green and gold for a color scheme taken?

For those who are new to this, if you bring a MOC for the cooperative layout, you fly your marker flags on it so that everyone knows who it belongs to.

They are just a fun way to identify your MOCs. But they are not required. If you want to claim a color just let me know.

"Chatty and conversational" LOL! That is such a female way to describe it (which is OK because the poster is female) but yeah, that's LEGO building in a nutshell.

I have mine trimmed down now. final dimension is 6x6 32 stud baseplates. After learning the tables are set up two deep I figured I better trim my layout down from the size of one table; the probem is that I now have six more baseplates worth of area to fill up. solution: build more river. The rest of what I'm bringing can just slot in elsewhere.
