BrickCon Castle Planning

Hey All,

It's that time again. Brickworld is over, so it is time to begin planning for BrickCon. I am the still the Castle Coordinator and I have some big plans this year. We will still be having the two separate sections, one for stand-alone MOCs and a collaberative layout. I will post updates here as I have more information. Also please use this to discuss any planning for the collaborative layout.

BrickCon!

Josh

I, um... will probably bring some, like figs? And... uh... maybe I can scrape together something collaborative? Base8 right?

...Oh. Crap.

BrickCon planning? Can I please get through this next week before this? :)

I will be there, but I don't know what or if I'll be contributing to castle. I've committed to several other displays and there is only a limited amount I can fly with.

I can, however, coordinate the Photoshoot and the Dinner.

Josh,

Where can we get info on Brickcon (i.e., tickets, time, location, etc.)? Thanks!

I really hope to be there this year. I might, however, need a ride from the Portland area, if Chris cannot make it... Probably won't be able to bring much of anything (though), since I will be living in a dorm at the time.

Hope to make and see you all!

I'm really going to try and come this year, there are still some things to figure out, but at the moment, I have the ok from my wife.

I will plan on being part of the group display, probably bringing my existing Base 8 stuff plus hopefully something new.

I will be there as usual ;)
I'll try not to leave my MOCs behind 8000 miles away this time. Is there a sea area like last time? I would like to build an island (yeah, just one, unfortunately I'm limited in what I can take with me on the plane).

I'm in to build something, either stand-alone or for the collaborative build. How amazing does a MOC have to be to qualify? I'm not super advanced, so I don't want to look dumb next to you guys who are basically Lego gods/artists, lol.

I've got the base almost done for my stand-alone. I'll start posting pics when the walls start going up. Thanks! Looking forward to my first BrickCon! :tasty:

We are just people, nothing special. ;) There are no qualification. Whatever you build will be welcome. I recommend that you build something for the collaberative build, no matter how small or insignificant it seems. My first contribution was a 16x32 road. Nothing really special about it. Seeing this huge joint effort come together and knowing you had something to do with it is a cool feeling. Build whatever you can and we will fit it in. The only thing you should do is try to have the edges of your MOC come in somewhere in the range of 1 brick + 1 baseplate. That is standard height that we use so that everyone's MOCs fit together. I will explain Base8 later, so you understand the other standards that we use. I'd do it now, but I'm at work getting ready to head home. :)

Looking forward to meeting you at the Con!

Josh

I've already taken time off from work. I'm working on a large desert city. Blue Secrets I'd love to collaborate with you. In fact I'd love to include as many builders as possible. I can't be the only one who bought a bunch of Prince of Persia when it went on sale..

Sorry for the silence on my end. The last couple of weeks have been busy. Anyway, it looks like we have a lot of interest in the display so far. I'm getting excited.

One thing that I have planned (not on the BrickCon site yet) is a Dragon Fly-in for the stand-alone Castle MOCs section. I'm sure you all are aware of set 3724 "Dragon". It is also known as "Ollie". This is the 10th anniversary of this set and I've always liked it. Quite a few people have made their own versions over the years and I would like to get a horde of them togther at the Con. A .pdf of the instructions is available for free. There is a link to it from the Brickset page.

If you have time and brick, you might consider building one. It's a fun thing to have around. I have both of mine in the living room and they get tons of comments. If you do build one, try to modify it in some way. Other colors, maybe tweek the pose a bit, whatever you want. It really lends itself to modification. I've talked privately with a few people and they are bringing some, but more is always better, right? ;)

I hope you can make it, Thomas. It would be great to see you again.

Sounds great! Looking forward to having you in the layout again.

Welcome to CC, I'm glad you got registered on the site! I was hoping you would. I'm looking forward to your desert city. I've wanted to have a better desert area. We've tried one a few times but we didn't have anyone who really wanted to head it up. Should be good!

Yup, I'll have the sea area again. It covers a lot of space and is easy to bring. I'm also working on a tower and surrounding landscape. You'd better bring an island this time. No lame excuses like last year. "8000 miles and I forgot it in my kitchen", whatever. ;)
