BrickCon 2012 Collaborative Project: Age of Empires II

Post by Fraslund »

I had an idea I wanted to run by you guys for next year. I was thinking of doing an Age of Empires 2 Moc, but then thought that would be an excellent project for a collaborative effort! For instance, smaller buildings like the Granary, Mill, Mining, Lumber yard could all be done on 32x32 baseplates, while the larger buildings like barracks, stable, town center could all be done on 48x48 plates. Also we could have a couple AoE2 castles in there as well.

Any Interest?

Awesome! I know its REALLY early, but this has the potential to be serously epic. Especially if we get enough participation to get two civs going at it.

Yeah, I actually started planning my little blacksmith MOC after BrickCon 2010; it's never too early to start planning.

Since the Age of Empires games are among my all-time favorites (and I'm a Microsoft guy to boot), count me in.

Another Age of Empires fan reporting for duty!
I really like the idea of having two different civs, at conflict with eachother.
Between plotting to kill you all and chasing balls of yarn, I also build MOCs

Maybe they could simply be the Lions and Dragons?

Then it wouldn't be Age of Empires II layout but a Kingdoms one, right? ;)

I am loving this already! Its funny actually me and my buddy always played together and I was Green and he was red.

I have 4 Battle packs of each faction ready to go for something like this. That was be great if we had enough to have two civs going at it. Could add some in flame towers/town centers. Good times!

I can already invision the woodchoppers gathering wood lol.

David, you da' man!

I looooved AoE when I was younger, especially AoE - Age of Kings. I'm in for sure!
I think if we were going to do it, we should pick two civs that have a distinctively different looks to them. Something like Teutons (one of my personal favorites, only because the knights were tanks. I always played them as green) and the Saraceans or Byzantines. (unique units and architecture, good as red).

This is going to be epic...

EDIT:

Here is a pic that shows a bunch of the Teuton structures...

I'm thinking we should replicate the buildings as much as possible to make it regognizable.

I agree! I always played the Teutons as well and played them as green. When the game first came out the range on their castle/towers was godly.

Saraceans/Byzantines would be a great rival, their architecture was very different but still amazing. I would definetly want to make the structures as true to the game as possible.

:raiseone: Well of course, but as far as I've seen, not many factions correspond to civilizations (although I have seen very little compared to some of you).

I know i won't participate. (I live in Norway) But my tip would be to conisder what age in the game it should be set to. Dark age, Feudal age Castle age and lastly Imperial age. and i say this because the building change between the ages some more than others. One thing that would be cool is if let's say the two factions were at different ages. like say the saracens being in the Imperial age and the Teutons being in the castle age.
It's just a thought from a long time AOE2 player.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Man, I'm practically giddy about this already.

@ Theboywarrior,

Yes, it would be a little tricky, but if we could stick to making the units true to the game, I think we can pull it off. If we go Saracen/Byzantine, we're going to need someone with a LOT of camels. Also, some of the new BrickArms prototypes that premiered at the Con might be useful in arming the different soldier types. I'm already envisioning what the Teutonic Knights will look like. I'll try to put some units together this weekend.

Also, how cool would it be to have one of the civs building a "wonder"?! With a whole bunch of laborers lined up around it working away!

glad you like the idea.
one thing though....
the female villagers all wear dresses. That should be easy to do.
But what about the male? they only wear pants and strut around without shirts on. that would be alot of yellow skin all around.

I also love the different age idea! The one thing I loved about the Teutons was their towers and PALADINS!!!

And the wonder idea would be epic. I can just imagine a half done moc of a Mosque or Cathedral! Getting some units together for comparision sounds like a great idea.

We can give villager men shirts I think haha. The tricky part will be finding a torso that is readily available in mass quantities that fits the theme.
