AK,

Looks like your road will be towards the back?

My "river" is actually going to be very wide, if not a sea, no bridge. Your road will lead into the Scorpions and Orcs side of my display. I can easily meet your road.

I will have flexible terrain from 32 studs from the back of the display to 80 studs from the right. Normally my roads are 8-wide filling an 8cre, so for example road between 32 and 40 studs from back. It looks like your road may be between 44 and 52 studs from the back, this is fine, I can make a custom road tile to make this adjustment. Is that a lake in your lower right? I have a moat towards the front, maybe we can coordinate and connect the moat to your lake.

Oh, Josh, I tentatively have a tan road leading off my left edge between 112 and 120 studs from the rear (72 and 80 studs from the front) if you want to match up with that. Oops... Hmm... Got something to fix in my planner. I also have a road at an elevation at an odd height closer to the back, may need to re-arrange things...

Fortunately my display is very modular (though there is going to be one pretty big module center-rear... I am building little 1/8 scale versions of my modules so I can move things around and plan.

Hmm, if you can give me 150" of width, I will definitely have room to match up nicely with folks on either side and have a decently wide river between my two halves. But if you prefer I stay in the 130" I will do so.

Okay, what I have is this:

160 studs wide
80 deep
A road going from left to right that is Base8
A river going from front to back
Big yellow castle with footprint of 32x32 on it
Lots of trees!

Any suggestions on what to do to make it fit better, now would be the time.

You now have 150". I am not planning a road all the way through mine but I can make small road sections that lead off the edge if I have to. But I would prefer no roads if you haven't built them yet. If you want a river on my side, I can handle one within the front 30"...closer to the front the better though.

Just let me know where the river and road are exactly and I'll figure something out.

No problem, I will make my edge on your side not have any roads or rivers. I wasn't planning on any water on either side.

To a degree, I will be really flexible because much of my terrain is 8x16, 16x16, 16x24, 16x32, and 32x32 pieces.

After my build next weekend I will have a lot more base-8 cliff sections so in the future it would be cool to do a cooperative display with lots of elevation change. I will be demoing some new 16 brick high base-8 cliff sections (I have a 43ish brick high mountain I am recycling from an old train display, I am making modules to but against it to convert it to base-8).

ffilz - I'll answer your questions below:
ffilz wrote:AK,

Looks like your road will be towards the back? - Yes - It will come out of the gatehouse and head towards you. The picture was just a rough layout, I will be sure it is base8 compatible. Right now I would guess that it will fall on studs 73-80 from the back edge (I am actually six 32x32 deep, contrary to the picture, which only shows 5 plates deep.)

My "river" is actually going to be very wide, if not a sea, no bridge. Your road will lead into the Scorpions and Orcs side of my display. I can easily meet your road. - Sounds good. I will place as described above unless you tell me otherwise. If you need me to make it bend around towards the rear, I can.

I think it will end up being more like a marshy pond though, so let's keep your river separate.
Let me know what you think. I'll post an updated layout hopefully tonight.

JOSH - After meeting with him last week, I will need to widen my display by 8 studs to give myself some more room behind my wall in order to smoothly fit with Fraslund's display. I'm sure that won't be an issue, but wanted to make you aware of it.

The layout is coming together really well, at least from everything I have heard. It makes it much easier for me that the majority of people are using the entire width of the tables (60") and there are only a handful of smaller MOCs that we will have to piece together at the Con.

We are going to have some awesome things this year, so much so that BrickCon had to give to two major Castle-related displays their own designated areas. Castle is taking over the Con! ;)

No problem. I figured a 16 stud leeway into the layout, along that run of tables, so we are good.

Ok, no problem, will close off the moat on that side.

Depending on their size and subject, we may be able to put one or two smaller MOCs in my display.

This shows my basic layout (click pic to go to Flickr and see/leave comments and/or notes). Road location is hard to see here, but I marked it with tan plates on your edge, Frank. It's at the front edge of that gray base plate. Will that work for you? Do you want road in tan or dark tan? (Or other?)

Yep, that will work for me. My road will be tan (I do tan or cobble for roads).

I have your road location marked on my 1/8 scale planner.

Everyone needs to remember to register their MOCs by tomorrow. After that you won't get a pre-printed MOC card and may not be eligible for prizes and/or awards.

I submitted MOC cards for my new castle and the display overall. May submit some more, but want to focus on the new MOC as part of the big display.

Josh - I submitted a MOC card but never posted here the final size. Only 64x64 studs as it has to but into a suitcase this time. Forresty themed. I'll bring as much filler as I can for areas in between.
