Re: BrickCon 2013 Castle Planning
Looking good Ted. I'm about 6 steps behind you. Struggling with my torso and waiting for bricks. Once I take her down from Brickcon, I will be debuting a new sigfig...it is about time I retired this one, but she will go out with a flourish, mondo huge sized.
Oh AK...did you get your mosaic worked out? Because I found this awesome paper to help me work on mine.

Check your inbox. I had no idea this was going to be this big. But hey...epic big sigfigs will be awesome!
Re: BrickCon 2013 Castle Planning
I'll offer to paint them. I've painted miniatures before (Not LEGO ones yet, but I should be able to handle it). I have my own paints as well. I'm just north of Seattle in Bellingham, should be easy to mail them back and forth.AK_Brickster wrote:Does anyone want to paint my PvC heads for me? I am afraid I won't have time to do it before the con
Nothing fancy required, particularly for the pigs, since they're already flesh colored. Cows could use some brown paint though, and all of them need eyes done. I can pay for paint and paintbrush as well as shipping, if not local to Seattle.
And hello all! Yes, I'm planning on coming to BrickCon again this year, but I don't have anything big planned for the castle display.
I did have some ideas though. I have very few pig and cow figures or knights with the emblems, but I'd be interested in building a couple giant "trojan cows & pigs" or siege towers shaped that way. If we're having a big battle scene, I could drop them in near castle walls or something.

Thanks Jubal! I'll PM you for your address.
I also had thought of Trojan pigs/cows, but don't have time to do them. Also, what about a Monte Python-style "cow-tapult"??
I printed out the template Blue sent me, so will work on designing my torso mosaic this weekend

I have made it to the neck!!! And now I'm going to take a break for the day. I have "builder's achy fingertips" Plus I've broken two nails. And I need to go digging for bricks again. White this time..and yellow for the head. But...this thing is waaaaaaay much bigger than I thought it was going to be. I can just imagine what the people scanning my luggage at the airport are going to say. "Who is this crazy chick with a huge LEGO doll in her luggage??!?"

It would be extremely helpful if you could share the dimensions of the torso (base width top width, and height) so that I don't have to waste time reinventing the wheel when I do my mosaic on the paper you gave me

Re: BrickCon 2013 Castle Planning
It depends on which step you are starting your torso on. Mine started on step 21 and was 20 studs wide. But the issue is once you reach step 29, the front of the torso isn't the width of the fig. At step 35, you are 16 steps in width, but again, the front of the torso isn't that wide. I needed to keep the steps open while I was drawing the outline, and while I was building. Because even what I drew out and planned, needed to be adjusted once I saw it in real bricks. And I had to sacrifice details. Like my torso has 2 detail parts in red. I was only able to put in part of one, but that is the limitations one has when making a mosaic. It still is recognizable.

Proposed "standard" for PvC castle armies. by AK_Brickster, on Flickr
I thought it would be cool if we could all coordinate our armies to look somewhat similar so that they would be two cohesive units.
What do you think of these guys?
Yours wouldn't have to be identical, but we could all aim for similar color palettes at least.
Open to suggestions. Feel free to tag others in the Flickr photo who will be attending.

Hey guys..I am totally skipping the turntable and tiling on the top of the torso...seems pointless to me. Plus since my gal has to survive being tossed about in my luggage..that seems like it would be a weak point.

I would think you could pack it with the head removed and then just attach it on the turntable once you arrived?
Are you done? You should send me a sneak peak
I haven't made any more progress on mine. Been too busy studying

I plan to remove the head and the arms. The shoulder joint seems likely to fail if roughly handled so it just seems easier to remove them. In fact I have been removing the arms rather than leave them attached and stressing the pins.AK_Brickster wrote:I would think you could pack it with the head removed and then just attach it on the turntable once you arrived?

Oh yeah..I know that the head and arms are not traveling on the fig. I'm not done yet. I'm at the eyes on the head. Then I have to wing it with the wig..which is a worry, but I'll figure it out. I had to order more yellow plates. Gees...I can't ever build something without buying more parts.

Re: BrickCon 2013 Castle Planning
Hahaha..then that would have been sand castle Blue! Might be interesting. I could have said I'd build that too, but this epic Blue is already going to make me bring the medium sized luggage. I really don't want to upgrade to the large sized luggage...pulling that through the airport to the tram, to the monorail...through Seattle Centre is..awkward at best.
