Re: Brickfair Virginia 2014 Coordination Thread
I don't know what your convention is like, but at BrickCon, it would have been a nightmare to try to get people to sign up on the spot. It's just too many people and way too loud to be able to explain what it is and have people select a faction, provide contact info, etc.
I think the info cards are a good way to get the info about the project into people's hands, and then they can check it out in depth if it's something that appeals to them. It's really more of a hassle than it's probably worth to just get 30 people to sign up so that they can get free stuff only for them to make one post on the forum and then disappear.
That is a really generous offer though, RBC. Maybe we could figure out a way to promote with your products in a way other than direct on-the-spot sign ups. Maybe staple a small ziplock with a "LCC" Cape in it to a few cards and you could hand them out to people at the convention who would be likely to participate, such as other attendees who are contributors to the castle layout.

Yeah I'm not sure that handing out free "merchandise" would be very effective. The best way would be to have cards like Jordan has suggested and used. Speaking of such, do you still have a copy of the card that you could possibly link to? I assume it just had info. on the LCC and were to join.

Here is a link to the current card: https://secure.flickr.com/photos/ak_bri ... 776226411/
I likely will change a few things on it before BFVA, per a few suggestions I've received. I just copied/pasted into a word document and sized it for about 10 cards/sheet.

Did you print them on card stock or regular paper?

Just regular paper. Card stock would have been a lot nicer, but I didn't have the time to get any. One of those lever-action paper cutters is a lifesaver, let me tell you!

Re: Brickfair Virginia 2014 Coordination Thread
Okay so as I have read through this thread, I think a lot of these comments may not be necessarily relevant to this particular display at a con, but in general a bigger discussion about what and how things should be done for cons.
Which I will make a thread and possibly move some of the posts from this thread over. (moving may wait until later when I'm not rushing to work)
But for now, please keep the comments in this thread to your display for this specific con.

I have cardstock so I could print some myself and attach the cape "baggies" to mine.AK_Brickster wrote:Here is a link to the current card: https://secure.flickr.com/photos/ak_bri ... 776226411/

For the map idea are we thinking of something like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/76437548@N ... otostream/ , but a larger scale?

That's kind of what I visualized. Bigger would allow you to make it more closely related to the shape of the map. You could even print a large picture of the map and display it next to the MOC, along with a short info summary about LCC

Hmmn...when the map idea was suggested I did think of Steven's build, but for some reason I've been envisioning a large map, but everything in micro-scale. All the towns and cities would be represented by their stereotypical style. It's funny how people interpret the same thing in different ways.

I was also envisioning a micro-scale type map of Roawia. To have it minifig scale would be nice, but the display would need to be massive for it to be minifig scale and still accurately represent Roawia.

Re: Brickfair Virginia 2014 Coordination Thread
Well, I think I envisioned something in between the two. Not really minifig scale or microscale, but more of a massive landscape in the shape of Roawia with a small building (maybe microscale or slightly larger) marking each capitol location, and some faction-appropriate minifigs roaming the map, having a border skirmish, etc

Re: Brickfair Virginia 2014 Coordination Thread
Haha yeah Minifig scale would be crazy. I think it'd be larger than the convention center. But maybe a mix of Micro-scale and minifig scale would be best. Or we could label different sites and locations across the map and then build them in minifig scale as vigs? It would give a nice sampling of the variety of terrain, style, and people that inhabit each of the factions.Andared of Lenfald wrote:
