ZacharyIslazy wrote:Haha yeah Minifig scale would be crazy. I think it'd be larger than the convention center. But maybe a mix of Micro-scale and minifig scale would be best. Or we could label different sites and locations across the map and then build them in minifig scale as vigs? It would give a nice sampling of the variety of terrain, style, and people that inhabit each of the factions.
The sampling idea seems like a real good one to me, but I was thinking of a not to scale, artistic representation rather then Micro-scale.

What do you mean by "artistic representation"?

If I may add my $0.02 in, I don't really care for the whole map thing. There was a LOTR map of Middle Earth at BFVA 2013 and although it was executed well, it didn't really connect with casual viewing, and this for LOTR which the public knows very-well, as opposed to LCC. I'll particpate with something small if a map is the final decision on what the LCC collab does, but I'd much prefer something more relatable, like an interpretation of a capital city, vignettes or a big-ol-randy battle.

I'm glad we started this thread 9 months ahead of time! At least we have time to decide and we're not down to the wire.

Yeah I agree with Gary, the map is not my thing either.

I'm going to be building a rather large (hopefully) castle, and I plan to have my 500 odd Outlaws under siege by my 200+ other factions. I have already drawn out the full scale interpretation and charted where everything should go. I figure I need to start seriously working on it by April-ish.

It might be too chaotic, but I would welcome anyone who wants to siege or help defend the castle. This is just some food for thought.

Big Castle+ Big Battle= most likely a crowd pleaser. However, we must put into consideration that what ever think is relevant now, probably won't be relevant to the Global story-line later. :)

EDIT: Depending on how quickly we kick the outlaws out of the mainland, we may be able to be having a tri-faction siege on a final bastion of the queen's power in the south. Anyone? :eyebrows:

Whatever you guys do doesn't really have to be relevant to the current LCC storyline, IMO. As long as the factions are represented and it stirs up excitement for LCC, I think anything goes.

Sorry Schmidt, I'm going to hijack your idea here, but older LCC members might remember the "Purge of the Magic Isle" and it basically sounds exactly what you have described Schmidt  It entailed the three mainland factions laying siege to the Magic Isle, unsuccessfully I add
Maybe we could do something like that? A big central castle, I think an obsidian themed one would look pretty impressive, under siege from the three mainland factions while Outlaws and magic users defend it? Although I'm not a big fan of battle MOCs I think it would definitely be a crowd pleaser.

We could still do a map as a display too. maybe 4 64 X 64 baseplates with simple 1x1s showing a pixelated version of our map. Then it could be propped up like the portraits usually are, with info. cards next to it.

And for people who don't have a ton of bricks or time to donate to the bigger collab( And also for the people who have MORE bricks and time to donate to the project too  ), a series of LCC flavored vigs like the Civil War guys did last year.

It combines a little of what everyone wants! Yay! :D

SSchmidt and Zachary are on target I think  Placed next to each other they could tie in well, expecially if we represented the current siege on the map so folks get it. And although Todd doesn't like self-promotion on the floor I think having a reference to the website as part of the map might be sly enough to get by.
However...there is a builder who always brings an Obsidian Something every year, giant castle, big cathedral, etc. Doesn't mean we can't do black as well, but we need to think of how we can make it different. Primarily black, with trans-clear elements for color/contrast? :raiseone:

Someone should pick up a small fog machine as they are on clearance right now just about everywhere. Having some fog trickling out of your evil castle might set it apart a bit ;)

Yes, a big black castle is a little bit canon for "evil" wrong doers, and I'll admit, I have seen some kind of giant black castle/cathedral/what-have-you all four years I've been in attendance at BF. I was picturing something very Barad-dûr themed, with lava and jagged rocks jutting out at intense angles. I'm not quite sure how you make a castle look evil without incorporating black or red somewhere  I mean, a castle is a castle. They're just gray, with a few other shades of molting bricks. Anytime I've ever seen an evil looking tower or castle it includes some form of darkness. Whether being black or just moodily lit, it all appears very dark.

The only thing I can think of that always seems very dark and sinister without using black as it's main color, are some of Derfel Cardan's works.

Here is something that might be inspirational: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rack9 ... ar/112.jpg

Not all black, but certainly prime to have an "evil" flare to it, with a bit of retrofitting.

That's sure is a whole lot of tiles. I do like the look of the keep in the background.

Oh I like the lava bit especially. We use it in Pharaoh's Labyrinth collab a lot. One thing we've been brainstorming is how to get the lava either to look like it's moving through lighting, or to actually have a "flowing" lava waterfall via rotating elements. Either way can we have a poll to see how many attendees are interested in a dark castle held by our not-so-lovely Queen's forces, being assaulted by the three factions, with an LCC map project to the side?

I wouldn't mind having a vote soon.

Also, Gary (Or anyone else who's displayed before), when you sign-up as a 4-day attendee, is there a certain amount of table real estate you are given? Does this change if you are part of a collab?
