OK, some news. My nom de reality is Richard and I am a new member here, but an old AFOL. I just discovered the community within the last 6-8 months. I live near Portland, so having BF here was great! I had a chance to meet Lenny and several others and a great time was had by all. I'm not a computer ninja, and don't know how to post any pix, but I have a couple of dozen. I know that Lenny was headed home today (Monday) so give him a day or two to shake out the cobwebs.
Attndance was 175. There were 3 castle displays, two by single builders, and the central CCC one. Our main display was somewhat lacking the first day as Lenny was pretty much on his own dispite about 12-15 people leading building, walls, seige engines (no lights Bruce sorry!). Being a local I was able to go home Friday night and build up some CCC walls.
In the end the display was wonderful, the public expo was very encouraging. We had just as many visitors despite being relagated to the far end of the room behind the foul heathens of trains and space!
One of the solo builders from Seattle was set upon Sat night by some space rangers. A mecha flattened his castle troop, and caused quite a bit of confusion in the public expo (Mommy, why is that mecha being attacked by flying sheep..?)
For me it was a great chance to get my feet wet in the community and discover about a half dozen local castle-heads including Jon Furman! I believe the West Coast will become a castle hub as we are already talking about a castle club...
Lastly, I give a lot of credit to Lenny Hoffman. He came across the country and did castle very proud, and even endured his wife's wrath at not calling on Valentine's Day... I'm glad I was able to meet you, and get introduce to the wide world of AFOL's.
Being seein more of ya later, Richard
