Impatient

Post by Bruce N H »

So, is anyone else impatient like me? I've kept checking here, Lugnet, and Brickshelf every 15 minutes all day hoping for some pics of the Brickfest PDX castle room with our group walled town (which will of course feature MY buildings very prominently, surrounded by huge arrows and blinking lights, right? :P ). All I've found is this one frustratingly small pic:
http://pdx.brickfest.com/art/gallery/d2 ... ewalls.jpg
There are also a couple of other Castle creations on the official BFPDX page:
http://pdx.brickfest.com/gallery.php
but these are not CCC standard so I assume these are creations by a single builder (or LUG).

Oh, there are also a few pictures in this folder:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=72083
I assume the purple inn is Larry's super secret CCC project he was hinting about?

Anyway, BF attendees, hurry up and upload your pics! Millions of AFOLs are about to explode! Well, at least this one is. :) Stories, too. Were there any inter-theme shenanigans (e.g. knights invading the Moonbase, evil robotic sheep attacking the town, etc.).

I too am dying to see some pics. Those of you blessed enough to go need to end this anticipation. Was there any news we haven't heard etc... ? What was the attendace like? Who from classic castle went. All things we would like to know. It all seems quiet on the Brickfest front, make some noise people.

OK, some news. My nom de reality is Richard and I am a new member here, but an old AFOL. I just discovered the community within the last 6-8 months. I live near Portland, so having BF here was great! I had a chance to meet Lenny and several others and a great time was had by all. I'm not a computer ninja, and don't know how to post any pix, but I have a couple of dozen. I know that Lenny was headed home today (Monday) so give him a day or two to shake out the cobwebs.

Attndance was 175. There were 3 castle displays, two by single builders, and the central CCC one. Our main display was somewhat lacking the first day as Lenny was pretty much on his own dispite about 12-15 people leading building, walls, seige engines (no lights Bruce sorry!). Being a local I was able to go home Friday night and build up some CCC walls.

In the end the display was wonderful, the public expo was very encouraging. We had just as many visitors despite being relagated to the far end of the room behind the foul heathens of trains and space!

One of the solo builders from Seattle was set upon Sat night by some space rangers. A mecha flattened his castle troop, and caused quite a bit of confusion in the public expo (Mommy, why is that mecha being attacked by flying sheep..?)

For me it was a great chance to get my feet wet in the community and discover about a half dozen local castle-heads including Jon Furman! I believe the West Coast will become a castle hub as we are already talking about a castle club...

Lastly, I give a lot of credit to Lenny Hoffman. He came across the country and did castle very proud, and even endured his wife's wrath at not calling on Valentine's Day... I'm glad I was able to meet you, and get introduce to the wide world of AFOL's.

Okay, some more photos are showing up today.

Here are the galleries those were in:

The town looks great! Though I do notice a distinct lack of blinking lights around my contribution. :)
Who built that wall section that goes up and over a hill? That may be my favorite MOC from the walled town.

Thanks for posting these Bruce. That wall/hill section is great!!! It was also very cool to several classic-castle mocs together. Thank you Lenny for bringing them to the fest!

Very nice pics,

Are there any close up pics of the table we can see in the background of this image?
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=660660

That wall area with the mound is excellent, I may have to incorporate that idea into the curtain wall I am building. It is amazing how easily the classic castle standard allows for the creation of villages like this one. How many people were involved in the castle layout this year? Are these the only two castle tables or are there more we haven't seen pictured yet?

I am hoping to make it to the next Brickfest PDX if it is in or close to the same area next year. Carpooling for Calgary is possible as Portland isn't too far away. Old_Republic and myself have big plans for what we can bring next year. Between the two us us perhaps a table of our own. :D

Wow, that display looks great! I'm so disappointed that I wasn't able to go, although I did see some people on the MAX with Lego backpacks coming from the convention center, I would assume they were going/coming to Brickfest ;)

Hopefully next year there will be one near by once more.

The pics are awsome. I am just down (because) I have family in Portland and that would have been sweet to go to that or contribute. I hope I can go to one eventually.

PDX Builder unlurking

Post by PumpkinKing »

I was one of the single builders of the Castle/Medieval area display at BrickFest-PDX.

I'm a bit shy, so I have mainly lurked on LUGNET for the last 5 years and I haven't ever posted links of my stuff.

I was terribly busy assembling my display (8 feet by 8 feet) and I was so exhausted I forgot to snap pics of my own display.

Here's a pic of me from my local LUG-mate Mark Sandlin while I was setting up on Friday: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=659089

Pics from RoyGal(?) of my display:
Front: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=660655
Right-corner (through mountain and caves): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=660657
Little farm in center of display:

My fellow local Castle builder, Thomas Rafert has shots of his sculpted landscape and castle (Brickinshire) and other PDX displays at: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=72780

Classic-Castle is a neat site! Keep up the great content and discussion.

Stephen, your display was great, don't be shy! I loved the detail you put into it. The laptop with the slideshow showing the attractions is something I've never seen before. Like you I'm new here to posting, let's stay active.

"I assume the purple inn is Larry's super secret CCC project he was hinting about?"

Yes.

Someone over on LUGNET actually called me a "Castle-er" so I guess it must have passed muster.

PS: This folder has the best pics I've seen so far... Thank you Todd Thuma for taking those!

Stephen,

Welcome to Classic-Castle! You've got no reason to be shy, your work is really impressive. Do you have a Brickshelf gallery? If not, it's really easy to create one:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/newuser.cgi
Also, if you then set up a MOCpages account:
http://www.mocpages.com/
you can add captions and descriptions for your photos.
Show us more of your castle layout! I especially like the underground area with the dragon skeleton. I'd like to see more detailed pics of the buildings etc.

Lar,

I like the detail on your inn. Clever to include the Clickits elements. Did you hear any "Mommy, what are those people doing?" questions during the public display? BTW, what is that one woman doing with a bird?

Another question for the attendees: See the creature in the lower right of this photo:
http://www.rustyclank.com/gallery/Brick ... 4/IM001051
I assume that's a Nazgul on a winged fell beast from LotR: RotK. Who built that, and do they have better photos in a Brickshelf gallery somewhere?

If you are refering to this post: http://news.lugnet.com/space/?n=31329

that 'someone' would be me! :D

Great MOC and welcome to castle!
