Robin Hood Movie
So, what do you think of the new movie? It comes out soon, and I for one will probably go see it. It has at least one LotR actor, and it looks like it has some pretty awesome battle scenes. While it'll be tough to beat the 1930's,(yes, 1930's ) version, it looks like it is pretty good. I think that the public is ready for another RH movie and I hope that the creators don't flub it up. I just thought of something: is LEGO going to release the new Kingdoms sets to coincide with Robin Hood? If so, that'd be a good marketing strategy; if I was the owner of TLG, I would do it.

Re: Robin Hood Movie
I have high expectations for this: Directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, American Gangster, Kingdom of Heaven), written by Brian Helgeland (Conspiracy Theory, L.A. Confidential, Mystic River) and starring Russell Crowe (A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator, L.A. Confidential) - it has a lot of potential.
Scott has said he doesn't really like any of the previous movie versions of the story, so I think we can expect something different. I'm guessing - and hoping for - a grittier story and more complex Hood.

Don't forget Master and Commander! Crowe did a great job in that one. Kingdom of Heaven was a pretty highly-criticised medieval movie, though, and that makes me nervous.wobnam wrote:I have high expectations for this: Directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, American Gangster, Kingdom of Heaven), written by Brian Helgeland (Conspiracy Theory, L.A. Re: Robin Hood Movie
There's synopsis on IMDB which gives the general plot outline. From that, it looks like it will be an interesting deviation from the original legend. I'm mildly optimistic.

Re: Robin Hood Movie
I will definately see this movie. Gladiator(among a host of others) proved Crowe good enough and Kate Blanchet is very skilled as well. The overall storyline(s) are appealing(good versus evil, rebellion against a tyrant), and the special effects.
My hope that LEGO will produce some updated Forestmen perhaps in 2011.

All I can say is that if Little John is not portrayed by a bear wearing green tights, the new version just won't measure up.
Watch this.

And if Prince John isn't potrayed by a light-brown version of the Pink Panther who likes to suck his thumb, then it will undermine Crowe's performance. That song is pretty catchy. Re: Robin Hood Movie
Yes, I have seen the Errol Flynn version of the movie and it is my personal favorite. I like classic movies. I happen to agree with Wobbie that this movie has a lot of potential. I love the Disney version also. There is even a made for tv version with Uma Thurman that I also like. There is much to be said about a GOOD Robin Hood movie. Unforunately, I don't consider the Kevin Costner movie to be a great Robinhood movie. It has its moments. It has its great parts, it has great actors (not all of them were), it even has a great song but it just doesn't compare to the original. Errol Flynn IS Robinhood for me. He's perfect in that role. Will Crow pull off the same dashing role? I think he will make the role his own, which is fine. Yes, I am looking forward to it.And if Prince John isn't potrayed by a light-brown version of the Pink Panther who likes to suck his thumb, then it will undermine Crowe's performance. That is both rude and disrespectful. It doesn't matter if you were attempting to be funny, it is not.So Pellinore, you like Kingdom of Heaven? Are you a jr. high girl who showed up to see Orlando Bloom? Just kidding, I am sure that it had some good scenes and actors, it's just that the reviews I read weren't that good.

Sorry about that. It's edited. Please accept my apology, Pellinore, I didn't mean to sound rude.Bluesecrets wrote:Yes, I have seen the Errol Flynn version of the movie and it is my personal favorite. As the foremost expert on myself, I simply must weigh in here for a moment. Errol Flynn portrays me better than any I have yet seen. I will of course hold on final judgement until I see this new one, but I really don't see it making me look any better than Flynn did.

Re: Robin Hood Movie
That pretty much sums it up for me. If Liam Neeson were 10 yrs younger and had the lead role, I'd already have my ticket. The Will Scarlet character isn't going to be able to hold a candle to the Slater portrayal, but hopefully he won't mess it up too bad. All in all, seems to have potential.I'm mildly optimistic.
