It was mostly destroyed during a siege in the Thirty Years War (judging by this castle's almost-impossible-to-attack position high up on a rocky hill that must have been one Megablocks of a siege), but rebuilt again into a more beautiful castle that we see there nowadays.

I have visited this castle! Its really beautiful!

The region of Baden-Württemberg has lots of castles and well-preserved medieval houses, streets etc..

It sure is! The wife and I were fortunate enough to visit this castle in Jan this year (a challenge considering we live in Australia!) and the building was wonderful, amory was impressive and the history was deep and interesting. The best part was the place was packed out two about six other tourists, two being Kiwi's who (oddley enough) seemed to know a thing or two about medieval history.

It's certainly set in a loverly environment. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Black Forest. This shot makes it look a bit Mont St Michel-ish (managed to spend a few hours there this trip too and alot busier than other places).

I've actually got a trip to Arundal Castle planned in September for a belated honeymoon so I'm pretty psyched about that . Apparently it's just finished complete restoration as it was done up for the recent snow white movie. That may just be hearsay but it does look fantastic;

Here is an inspiration that I will be attempting. It's of Michael's Gate (Michalska Brana) located in Bratislava, Slovakia. I plan on recreating it in LEGO form with the adjacent yellow buildings next to it. I will try to stick close to minifig scale, but it appears to be quite tall, so we'll see.

I was just wandering around, lost in the internet, and came across this image of a most curious town hall in southern Germany -- the town of Bamberg. It looks like the Rathaus was built on a bridge in the middle of a river going through the town.

More building inspiration. Here is the main gatehouse for the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes. After the Knights Hospitaller occupied several Greek islands off the coast of modern-day Turkey, they made their base in Rhodes and largely re-built this castle in 1309 on the site of an older citadel. The castle was greatly damaged by an explosion in 1856 and was restored in the 1930's. You can see more photos of the castle, along with other scenes from around Rhodes, in these two galleries. Hi all, I just came across this fascinating video of a medieval moated house in south England. I think it was around 40:13 seeing the mosaic of colors among the roof tiles that I realized I ought to share this with you guys. If I ever take another trip to England, I'm definitely putting this house on my list of places to visit. Enjoy.
