Enjoy!

This particular harness is what I wear to fight in, while I await my completely
new harness with pig-faced helm.

Oh, and I hate waiting.

Cool? Dang, it's 100 degrees out and I'm looking at someone in a walking oven suit? I'm sweating just looking at it.

But other than that...kewl! 8)

That is pretty neat! Might I ask how much it costs to buy all that? I want to start saving now

Not an easy answer, by any means.

Depending on what kind of steel you want in made in, the price will definitely vary. There are 3 typical grades of steel used - mild, stainless, and spring(more costly in that order). And "who" makes it will vary in price also. Some charge more, and are worth it, while others might charge less and also do quality work. It takes quite a bit of research to find the best bang for your buck, so to speak.

That being said, rough prices for my armour as shown -

Helm - $200+
Breastplate - $250+
Spaulders(shoulders) - $40-60
Arms - $150-200
Gauntlets - $200+
3/4 Legs(upper legs and knees) - $250-300
Greaves(lower legs) - $50+
Maille haubergeon(short sleeved shirt) - $100+

The maille shirt is cheap only because it's butted.
An actual riveted shirt would cost $600 - $1000

The new harness I'm expecting within the next week,
cost me a cool $2400(stainless), without a helm. The "pig-faced"
bascinet should be ready within the same timeframe,
and cost $1600(spring steel). Yeah, that's just for the helm.
Believe it or not, these higher prices are on the LOW side.

So start saving your money, if you really want something period
and worthy of fighting in.

If you're interested in the combat aspect, but hindered by the costs, there is a cheap alternative. A group in my town practices 'foam fighting.' They use PVC pipe and high density foam to create safe practice weapons. Because the weapons are soft and blunt, you can wear leather armor (lighter and cheaper) or no armor at all. All that is required is some sort of garb.
I would say that it would cost about $100 dollars to throw together some garb and make a weapon, if that.

That WOULD be a cheaper alternative. I used to dabble a little in padded weapons myself. Man, some of my friends would make HUGE swords because they were so lightweight.

It's fun though.
