Have you read the trilogy about Arn?

Post by melonkernel »

My favourite books are the trilogy about Arn,

They describe life in medieval Sweden, knighthood, medieval battle tactics.
The third book is the best, which is about the main character building up defences, building castles and training cavalry. The books was the factor that brought me out of the dark age. I recommend them.

There has come a movie of the first two books now, but one should read the books first.

I haven't read them, but I've heard a lot about them and I'm familiar with some of the author Jan Guillou's other work. Based on this I'll recommend them as well. Although the story is fictional, as far as I understand it's very well researched and historically correct.

The first three books are considered a trilogy, while the fourth is a somewhat less related follow-up.

I really like the way the reader is involved in the process of improving life, comfort and warfare in the barbaric north.

I have read them now twice and seen the movie. The movie is rather true to the book, but you will not get the details about medieval life from it, so i recommend the books.

They made me build all kinds of watermills, and stuff in Lego. Had me up nights building some time ago.

I have read them once, they were pretty good. I wish I could find and re-read them again.

Are these books available in the US? They sound very interesting.
