Vianden Castle is really impressive. I was passing it when driving through Luxembourg.

The Great Wall is great but as you mentioned, it isn't a castle. I respect the majesty of the Great Wall but I have a greater fondness for enclosed structures.

I don't think you've read what this thread was really about before you replied, did you? ;)

Haha my mistake I meant to say castle builders. It follows then that the best castles will come from the best castle builders. Well just to keep the cat in order I will say Estuary Stronghold by Eggy and then Brickistan by Sandy.

HAHAHA!!! woops.... That's one way to start off your cc-career! So I would say Bodiam Castle in England and then Fortaleza castle in Dominican Republic because it has a really diverse style and is the first castle in the Americas. *goes and cries in corner.

I don't think I have visited enough castles in enough countries to make a declaration for one country over another. However, the only castle I have visited that made me feel like I might be stepping into a storybook was Burg Eltz in Germany.

England/Wales would be my first choice.
The castles built by King Edward I are some of the best examples of medieval military architecture.

Well there are so many in Europe. But these are among my favourite castles - only 8 of over 10000 in Germany which are still standing. So it is really difficult to make a decision.

Kasselburg/Eifel http://www.burgenwelt.de/kasselburg/kasselburg.htm
Manderscheid/Eifel http://de.academic.ru/pictures/dewiki/6 ... scheid.jpg
Linn/Krefeld http://burgerbe.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/linn2.jpg I visit this castle frequently as it is next to my in-laws :D
Muenzenberg/Wetterau http://www.burgenwelt.de/muenzen/muenzen.htm
Ehrenburg/Mosel http://www.burgen-net.de/moselburgen/eh ... enburg.jpg
Landeck/Pfalz http://www.burgenwelt.de/frameset.htm
And of course Wildenburg, near my home village http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php? ... 2816584131 :D
