That's cool about your family owning a castle. About all I know is I'm related to Jesse James (not something to be particularly proud of...) and then a guy who helped translate the King James Bible (1611, I believe). I really need to look into my ancestry and stuff; there's no doubt it would be interesting.
God bless,
Crushmaster.

My ancestors were space aliens but they disguised themselves as poor peasants in Sweden. Why? We will never know.

I just found out that Charlemagne is my great x35 grandfather! My dad was able to trace my paternal family back to 49 A.D. This my most exciting ancestory find ever. :) I am also related to Princess Margaret of Scotland.

No, I'm not bragging, I'm just excited. :D

EDIT: I just found out about Princess Margaret of Scotland: she is the granddaughter of King James I. :o

I'm related to John Perrot who had a castle and ruled Ireland under Queen Elizabeth I! Here's his castle http://www.castlewales.com/carew.html
He was also the son of King Henry VIII!

If you're a direct descendant from Charmemagne, then you're related to pert near every United States president that ever lived.

Cool. :)

Actually, I want to correct myself: great x50 grandfather. x35 was some other royalish relative. Yep, I think that makes me related to: Tom Jefferson, FDR, Taft?, Woody Wilson?, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, and B. Obama. Oh, and Cheney is related to Obama, so him too probably. :) I love ancestry. I also discovered that Richard the Lion Heart is a family member.

@Crushmaster: Actually, Jesse James is awesome to have as a relative. He's kinda become a folk hero.

By that logic, and with mathematical approximation, you are therefore 1/1120000000000000 part Charlemagne. That said, you are more closely related to a potato. All of this is not LEGO-related, is it? I think not. Go Netherlands!

Actually, my family, according to my Dad's research, is very closely related to Charlemagne. I'm not bragging, I just don't want people to think that my family is only related to him remotely. It is the presidents that I'm only distantly related to. What is the skull thing for? :? EDIT: Oh, I get it now. Sorry, I thought it was a more recent post.

Oh, this isn't LEGO-related, but it is very appropriate for Medieval Life. Except for the "Go Netherlands" comment. Although, I must admit I am rooting for them...but let's not go there. :tasty:

Whether or not you are very closely related or not..if you are 50 generations removed then indeed you are the fraction of Charlemagne that Sir Nelson used which is indeed rounded. Which mathematically speaking is closer to zero than any real life application of measurement (please note I am excluding the area of science where they in fact due use numbers this small and smaller, but even a scientist could see and understand that when discussing heritage, this fraction makes it nearly irrelevant as it is practically zero).

I'm not sure how remote or not remotely related someone can or can't be when it has been 50 generations. They let people marry who are 1st cousins marry in 26 out of 50 states, so I guess technically that may or may not be considered related. See here for that information: http://www.tedpack.org/cuzdate.html

I am not sure what the purpose of this thread is other than what seem to brag about heritage. I do not find it relevant to medieval life at all.

But what the heck, I can make wild claims and speculations too. So...I shall say this: I am related to...Jane Eyre.

Oh yes, I did pick a fictional character to prove a point...any one can say anything on the net...

Sorry, I really wasn't bragging, I just thought it was interesting. :) I'll even admit this: lots of Europeans are related to Charlemagne. It's not wholly uncommon. That's one reason why many presidents are related to him; Charlemagne is almost like the Adam of Europe. See, I just said it's not anything huge, yet interesting to some. When I posted it I expected many other members to say that they, too, were related to Charlemagne.

You are right, Blue, that anyone can say anything on the web. I do not want people bragging, I just am an ancestory geek. As to 50 gnerations, I think what my father found was that it was fairly close...I think it goes like this: his daughter married one of my close relatives. It gets confusing, so I'll have to study some more.

About this thread's on-topic-ness, I see both sides of the issue. Whether it's locked, whether it's open, this is just for fun. :)
