Medieval fortress being built in Arkansas, USA

Post by Jacob C. »

This actually looks like it will be an amazing castle, check out the website...

http://www.ozarkmedievalfortress.com/en-us/

They're constructing this castle using 13th century techniques and they're making use of the natural resources available in the immediate vicinity.
I would love to drive out there and visit it some time. Wonder if any CC members live near there?

EDIT:

Here's pics of what the castle will look like through 3 stages of construction:

That back wall by the giant tower looks a little wimpy but it sounds amazing.

They've laid that much of the foundation since May of this year?? Wow, that's impressive. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, it will be awesome to watch these for the next twenty years.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

The castles will look similar but they're not the same, the plan for the Ozark fortress is slightly different and better looking in my opinion.

That is of course a matter of perspective. I like Ozark, but I prefer the French one, as the American version has got some architectural weaknesses like the late medieval gables and the shape/size of the main building.

Nevertheless, I'm happy for you guys that they build a proper castle in the US

Does the one in France have images of what it is projected to look like when complete?

My preference for the Ozark one is purely aesthetic, I love the irregular shape of the plan and the differences between the towers.
Both will be great looking castles, so I look forward to seeing them when they're complete, of course that probably won't be for a long time.

Thanks for the links! It looks awesome. That darn huge tower straight dominates the outline/entire castle. I'd love to go visit that one in Arkansas, makes me actually want to go to that state.

That's pretty cool. I'll have to see if I can visit this sometime in the next few years to see how progress goes.

Both castles look impressive. Definetly will have to go to Arkansas and France someday in the next twenty years to see and tour them.
