church and university buildings

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

I had my camera with me this morning, so I stopped to take pics of a church and some buildings on UCLA's campus. While these were all built in the last century, I think there's some nice design ideas here for castle structures.

Hmm. I do see some potential with these. A little tweaking and a fair amount of bricks and these pics could be turned into a great looking castle moc. Thanks for sharing Bruce.

Do you go to UCLA? Or do you teach? Or were you just "passing through"?

I was a grad student at UCLA until a couple of years ago. Now I teach at Cal State Northridge. My SO is still at UCLA, though, and I went in to work with her this morning on my way to Northridge.

Hmm, that looks very similar to the buildings at the University of Texas.

Mainly the spanish roofing. I often thought some of the archietural stuff could translate into medieval castles even though most of it looks "Western"

Sorry to try thread hijacking Bruce... But I was looking at the Ldraw roofline and the pics you took of the buildings it represents and came up with this.

I realy like the 1x4 arches on the roofline. On small scale building this looks real nice. Now to figure out a roof for it.
The interior of this bulding needs lots of work. The main arches for roof support came out rather neat.

Hey Fred,

That looks great! It's good to see this get implemented in ABS form. I haven't had a chance to try this yet.

I really like the vaulted look in the last couple of pics. Thanks for posting this. Portland, OR and its surrounding area have very little in the way of medieval inspired buildings. I do live in wine country, so I'll try to post some of the beautiful wineries nearby, oh, andwe have a Trappist Abbey just outside town. Now I need the time to do it.

Bruce

I do the same thing when I am able to borrow my brother's digital camera. I usually go after churches and old buildings in my city for building inspiration.

Anyway, those are some great pictures. :)
