So what is everyone's favorite Castle?
And why?
Mine would have to be "Krak Des Chevaliers" in Syria.
It's massive and well fortified & sits on a hill in a nice looking space of rugged desert-like terrain.

I can't just pic one.
My top 5, in no particular order:
1. Burg Eltz, Germany
Its so beautiful and its in such a nice loction, so fantastic, but the best part is its really medieval!
2.Neuschwanstein, Germany
Ok, its not a real CASTLE, but its the prettiest manmade structure in the world IMO. What a great loction too, King Ludwig had great taste.
3.Warwick Catle, UK
Great Castle, it really looks like one. I love too how this castle in not symetrical. It was built over many centuries, and it looks that way.
4. Burg Stahleck, Germany
If you haven't noticed, I have a love affair with German Castles. I really love Stahleck. The cozy secure feeling of this enclosed structure really appeals to me, it is inspiration for my current castle project.
5. Conwy Castle, UK
Welsh castles are the best! This is so powerful and easily defendable. What is awsome about this is how if is build on a rock!
Well thats just a few Bodium, de Monte, Rochester, Dubovac, Tower of London, Sully, and Bunratty are all up there too. You see its too hard for me to just pick one, when I love so many.

Brug Eltz.
I don't get surprised/astonished a lot anymore, but when I took the turn and saw the castle I was really surprised. It is a wonderful sight to see!
It's a long and not so easy walk, but it's worth it.

Altho its not really a castle,
Castillo de san Marcos in St.Augustine is the closest thing to a castle in florida. We would spend our family vacations there and I spent a lot of time playing in that castle.

And just for sentimental reasons (but also because I like the castle):
Schloß Zeil in Germany.
My grandmother and aunt used to live there.
My familiy didn't own the castle of course, my aunt worked at the castle and I spent a lot of time over there.

I like all castles in their own right but one of my favorietes is Caernarvon castle. It is one of the biggest and most powerful castles ever built. It is surrounded by strong and lofty walls and defended by two gatehouses and nine wall towers. All developments and know-how, gathered during centuries, were used in this great structure.
In my opinion, it ranks among the finest examples of medievial military art.

My favorite has to be Chillon in Switzerland. The landscape, on the shores of Lake Geneva, is absolutely beautiful. Mountains and water are the best combination for natural beauty, in my personal opinion. Also, it is a great example of strength with its strategic yet highly defendable position.
Chillon is one of the few castles I actually had a chance to tour when I took a trip to Europe, so I get a little sentimental just thinking about it. I hope to make it back to Europe and see more some time in the not too distant future.

I live in wales
Caernarfon Castle. like conwy, built by the same people i think. and also easily defendable.
I live in Wales and welsh castles are the best but they need to be looked after better. Conwy Castle is small but you could possibly builld it.
Edit: how do i get my avatar to show up.

My favourite at the moment is The Citadel of Carcasonne. It's a castle in southern France originally built by the Kathars I think:
