Another new Movie inspiration... medieval this time

Post by JPinoy »

The movie is called KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is about the Crusades, and stars Orlando Bloom. Jerusalem is the main city involved in the movie, thus the title. Its directed by Ridley Scott, same guy who directed Gladiator.

Odd... how this guy (Bloom) seems to go for movies with battles in them...

Yahoo movies has a preview containing some battle scenes including the Siege of Jerusalem.

Cool! Its about time they made a movie about the crusades! Before I thought Orlando Bloom was a bit of a pretty boy but it looks like he's been in almost every sword fighting movie for the last couple of years so he's cool.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That movie looks awesome!
It will probably blow all other medieval themed movies away!
At the end of the trailer, you could see a scene where the Trebuchets were launching fire bombs at Jerusalem or some other city. And the Knights, armour, horses, large formation of troops.....waaaaaaahhh!!!! My mind is going crazy!!!!!
Gladiator was great, this should be even better!

Thank you for the post.....this is the first I've heard of the movie

Wow! Loks like an awsome movie! Although those seige towers bear an uncanny resemblance to those in LoTR Return of the King.

If you were an actor, wouldn't you?

Ridley Scott has got to be one of the most visually gifted directors in Hollywood. While I'm not a big fan of his movies, I must say that he does amazing things with a camera. Visually, this really seems to put most historical films to shame. Whether the actual story stands up is anybody's guess, but this definitely looks promising.

Sweeeeeet :D

I love movies about the crusades. Lets see how they:

A: get a lot of it right...
B: get most of it wrong...
or
C: what was the question?

As long as the battle scenes, weaponry, armour, & fighting tactics are accurate, then thats what will make me happy. Of course there will probably be some silly love fling between the main character & a female (princess?) which is almost a standard in movies these days.
I really liked Gladiator, so Im hoping this will be just as good or even better.

Well, of course they need that Arabian princess as a love interest for Blooms character. Afterall, we wouldn't want our female companions getting board with the movie having only action and no romance.

you don't have to approve of what they did to enjoy a good movie. The 13th warrior was about an arabian dude who went to hang out with a buncha norsemen - vikings right? Vikings were not very nice guys.
or to take it to another movie, I recently saw the history channels "Spartacus", and I enjoyed it a lot, but I don't particularly agree with slavery, murder, or crucifiction.

if the movie shows some good fight scenes, and accurately shows what the characters believed in at that time then I'll be happy.
(nothing is worse to me than seeing a movie set in medieval times, and being politically correct  )

You gotta read the material "...(Bloom) protects the people of Jerusalem." Third crusade, which gives away what happens in that regard (not that I expect Ridley Scott to pay close attention to history).

Can't say that I approve of the Crusades, but I can't say that I approve of how the Seljuks and Fatimids got ahold of Jerusalem either (or the Romans, or Greeks, or ...) :D

Thats good, because the good guys are Bloom who becomes a knight and DEFENDS Jerusalem from another Crusader army.

Many knights of earlier Crusades and/or those who were captured by the Arabs ended up fighting along side the armies of Islam who also had Jews and other Christians within their ranks.
